November 30, 20214 yr Hi guys, Apologies if this is the wrong forum, if so, please feel free to move the topic. Having come back to the hobby after an almost 10 year break, I have not been kept up to date very much with the latest developments and addons. I am flying the Maddog MD-82 around Europe (P3D V5), and would like to know your opinion on what the best scenery for LEMD (Madrid Barajas), and ESSA (Stockholm Arlanda) is. I have noticed that for LEMD there seems to be two options. One is Simwings and the other LatinVFR. I have a GTX 1080 ti and an i7 processor, so performance is not a huge issue (although dynamic lights at some airports can tank the fps by more than half, depending on how well optimised the scenery is). I got great framerates with Aerosoft EGLL and EDDF at night, while MK Design EFHK performance is abysmal at the gates. For ESSA I have seen, there only appears to be Orbx offering. How is night performance for this scenery, and might there be any alternatives to the Orbx one? Any suggestions/insights would be helpful. Thanks
November 30, 20214 yr I don't have any scenery for LEMD but I own the ORBX ESSA Scenery and am extremely happy with it. Performance is fine for me with the Maddog both day & night. PUT In the UK. AMD Ryzen 5 5600x & Radeon RX6700XT. Prepar3Dv5 @1080p

Do you have dynamic lights set on ORBX ESSA, and is there a big FPS difference between day/night at the airfield (especially gates/apron area)? I am strongly thinking to buy it as its a hub for the airline I fly (SAS), but there is no demo version available.

Yes I believe it has Dynamic Lights, I can't really say for certain about FPS difference, I don't believe there is a big difference, or at least I've never noticed one. PUT In the UK. November 30, 20214 yr Agree with LatinVFR LEMD and ORBX ESSA. Careful with LEMD as it uses a ton of VRAM, and you will probably want to install the non-PBR version depending on your setup or you will run out of VRAM easily. ORBX ESSA is good. There is some flickering with the dynamic lights in V5 but there is a fix on the ORBX forum (link below). Do you have Flytampa EKCH already? If not, I'd take a long look at that one although it is pricey. https://forum.orbxdirect.com/topic/203619-essa-flashing-squares-of-dynamic-lighting/ Edited November 30, 20214 yr by okupton Orman

I heard the LatinVFR scenery is a bit FPS intensive but as I'm able to run EGLL, EHAM and EDDF hopefully there won't be any issues. Mostly the dynamic lighting is tanking the FPS, although in LEMD the terminal buildings are quite far from the runways, so hopefully the approach is smooth at least? The approach/landing is the most important phase. No EKCH yet, quite expensive but definitely in my bucket list for later.
November 30, 20214 yr FlyTampa EKCH Copenhagen Kastrup is a beautiful airport addon. If only I had decent quality photoscenery of southern Sweden to go with it..... I have a GTX 1070 (8GB) an have run into issues with LEMD PBR version which is why I recommended to install the non-PBR version for VRAM purposes. I have had smooth performance with the non - PBR version. If you can run EGLL, EHAM, EDDF, you should be fine with LEMD. Orman
November 30, 20214 yr I am using LEMD by Aerosoft with Dynamic Lighting free by Inibuilds. https://www.aerosoft.com/en/flight-simulation/popular-products/mega-airports/2506/mega-airport-madrid-professional https://forum.inibuilds.com/files/file/789-aerosoft-madrid/
November 30, 20214 yr Author Thanks guys for all the suggestions. I decided to buy LEMD and ESSA in the end, but to my unfortunate surprise, the framerate was terrible for ORBX ESSA. I believe this is caused by some kind of bug with the type or dynamic lighting Orbx is using as I only have FPS issues at their airports for some reason, and have requested a refund for it... Luckily though, I have no problems at LatinVFR LEMD which is a much more demanding scenery 😳 6 hours ago, Christopher Low said: FlyTampa EKCH Copenhagen Kastrup is a beautiful airport addon. Once the sim is more mature with a better add-ons eco-system it might be time to move
November 30, 20214 yr Hi Ikarus280, As far as Orbx scenarios, such as KSAN for example, in fact there are fps problems related to the use of Dynamic Light if you take off / land at night. This problem with low fps with DL ON, you can improve on some apt Orbx, unfortunately not yet for ESSA, and on many other apt pay and free, using the Inibuilds free Dynamic Lighting. https://www.inibuilds.com/dynamic-lighting

As soon as you pushback the framerate is acceptable again. Luckily inibuilds seem to have a config for LYBE so I will try that. LOWI and ESSA are unplayable with dynamic lighting on during the night (even on the runway). I will keep LOWI, as this is a scenic airport and I can live with flying only during the day. ESSA on the other hand is an international airport and it's not so ok.. Won't buy any more Orbx products until they have sorted out this mess
December 1, 20214 yr Dynamic lighting together with SSAA anti-aliasing is a frame rate killer...I run 4xSSAA in daytime with DL off, and at night I go to 8xMSAA with DL on and shadows off. That significantly lightens the load. December 1, 20214 yr Makes sense if its the AA that's causing this. I only ever run with very modest AA (4x MSAA) and haven't had any of the above FPS issues with Orbx airports. PUT In the UK. AMD Ryzen 5 5600x & Radeon RX6700XT. Prepar3Dv5 @1080p
