Does REX Weather Force cure the haze?

Recommended Posts

I saw a post on the official forums about a week ago on one of the threads complaining about post-SU7 weather problems in which someone said that using REX Weather Force solved the problems -- but the poster didn't specify that one of the problems it solved was the omnipresent haze.   Has anyone tested this out yet?

If I recall correctly, REX is just a collection of weather presets.

It will not provide dynamic weather, just adds presets for weather scenarios missing from the list of presets in the default sim.

I use REX and have never had haze up here in my area .

No it isn't.

I tried the latest version of Rex Weather Force and, frankly, the results left a lot to be desired, and I went back to MSFS' Live Weather.

Thanks for correcting me. I'd previously ignored the product on the basis of my ignorance about what it does.

What was it about weather force that let you down? I'm guessing you wouldn't recommend it?

As of this moment, WF is having a real problem with winds aloft, doubling their intensity at all altitudes. In addition, there are other problems near the ground. This has been acknowledged by the developers and they're working on a technical update. Haze is not a problem.

Much appreciated. I shall watch this for future updates.

Currently, the depiction of weather is more accurate, IMHO, using MSFS 2020's weather function. Far from perfect, mind you, but I live fairly close to my home airport and doing the "looking out the window and comparing what I see to what the sim loads"-test, MSFS 2020 does a better job.

REX has pop up weather meaning it's more like early FS9 depictions than later on. This is because of still limited information from the SDK in this department.  You won't see rain clouds in the distance and fly to them and around them and then leave them behind you.  What you have with REX is weather pops in around you as you fly.  Low and slow it might not be a big deal (like crop dusting) but any distance flying is frustrating knowing the fidelity that's possible today.  I wish ActiveSky was in the game for FS2020 but their not.  Activesky started the whole depiction that we used to see by default in FS2020.  For me personally REX is a no go unless I want to go back to early FS9 weather depiction which I have no interest in.

That seems harsh. On the principle of "extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof" it would be good to see actual comparisons between the REX injected weather and early FS9, i.e. screen shots. I agree completely that the default MSFS weather depiction is superior to anything I have ever seen before and would also agree that when the bugs are worked out of Live Weather, I will have no need for REX, Active Sky, or most any other imaginable weather add-on.

All of the usual mileage disclaimers apply......

I believe REX Weather Force is a good backup when MSFS live weather isn't working properly (for me that's defined as lightning where it doesn't make sense and the infernal haze).  As jrw4 mentioned, they are currently working on a bug with winds aloft; however, I received an email yesterday---after reporting the issue myself---that they were aware and a new technical update is being prepared that will be released soon to remedy that.

True, there can be pop-in when transitioning between weather, but they have improved the smoothness of that a bit (if using the 'inject weather over time' setting) since it's release. I'll gladly take that over lightning and that blasted haze every time.

Thanks for letting me know that this has the pop-up weather. It's crucial to me that the transitions are smooth over the accuracy of the weather.

REX Weather Force not only solves the issue with the overdone and popping haze. It also solves the temperature going up to 250 degrees at FL240 and higher which seems to have been (re-) introduced by Asobo just today.

Rex weather comes with it's own issues but at least it makes the sim usable again with live weather for now. I'm happy to have it as a backup when Asobo screws it up once again.

Taking off out of CYOW 45m ago weather depiction was spot on to the in-sim METAR.  The temperature bug is bizarre-haven't determine at what altitude it starts so at the moment I slewed down to FL180 and SAT is what it ought to be, but at FL300 it was 253C!

I know I'll never go buy an app that addresses a segment of MSFS that is under active development and clearly Asobo is very much focused on weather at the moment, and I certainly don't expect ongoing problems.  Plus, as Asobo makes changes the 3rd party dev now needs to stay updated.  No thanks...
