How many are troubled by these two causes of stuttering?

Featured Replies

I seem to be the only one who is troubled by these two issues:

  1. The white spiraling spinner on the lower right part of the displaying presumably logging seminal events throughout all flights, to greater or lesser degrees, and for me almost always associated w/ a brief stutter.
  2. When ATC speech starts there can be a brief stutter, not always, but significantly often.  This was solved in part by ATC Stuttering Fix, however it was suboptimal in that it trimmed history to the most recent 4 lines of text/speech, plus is wasn't 100% perfect,. but anyway it was apparently not compatible w/ SU7 anyway.

#1 has an easy workaround, which is to simply toggle Dev Mode on then off at any point in a flight.  But the problem there is you then no longer log flights in the Pilot Log.  I much prefer stutter-free flights so forego logging, but I'd rather flight were logged too!

It's possible something in my configuration may put me at risk for these sources of associated stuttering, so just curious if you've noticed it but it's too minor for you to be concerned about, or if you simply don't ever notice this behavior.  I have zen desked it a couple of times but even they they respond as 'solved', I guess this just means they're aware as it's not solved at least for me.  I am about to resubmit the issue as it began on initial release and persists to this day, but thought it might be helpful first to hear if others are having this issue etc.

Cheers

You are not the only one, but probably these are not the highest issues on the list at the moment.

I hate the spinner.  There is simply no need for it in flight, but it is probably just coincidental rather than the cause.  As you say, probably more to do with saving and loading.

I have to turn off azure and use windows internal speech to stop my stuttering with ATC.

I also used the ATC log fix before, but it causes major issues in SU7 as you say.

I tried your dev mode clear log trick ages ago when you first mentioned it.  It does work, but it runs out too quickly for me.  After about 20 minutes I find the log is full again with about 2500 lines!

Hopefully they can set about some of these issues with SU8, and maybe even optimise a bit more.  I would expect DX12 to be tweaked a bit at each update as well hopefully.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I don't know if this applies to either of you, but if you have Tobii Eyetracker, disabling it through Tobii Experience helped with some stuttering. Even though you may not have it enabled in the sim, it is still tracking your eyes and can cause CPU spikes. So when not using it, disable it in the software.

I wish there was a way to completely disable the ATC...

There is.  Just tune away from the frequencies active in your sector.  You will not receive what you do not tune.  And if you enter a sector where the frequency you have tuned comes live then just tune away from it.  I don't appreciate flying with radio silence so from time to time I tune in ATIS/AWOS along my route, mostly to get some semblance of life, and to keep my altitude adjusted based on altimeter settings.  When I start hearing of 75+ surface winds or dew point readings higher than the temperature readings.....  then I tune those out as well.

Isn't this all great?

Yeah, I know what you mean. I guess just muting it for now is the only way. VATSIM is probably the best way to get life into the sim lol.

I wish there was a way to completely disable the ATC...

  1. ASSISTANCE > PILOTING > DELEGATE ATC TO AI: OFF.
  2. ASSISTANCE > USER EXPERIENCE > ATC VOICES: OFF.
  3. ASSISTANCE > USER EXPERIENCE > ATC UI PANEL OPEN AT START: OFF.

I was mistaken by that--it was a red herring.  What really matters to stop the spinner and it's associated stutter is simply to turn Dev Mode ON, then immediately it back OFF, at any place in the flight.  I thought that logging in the console was the action associated w/ the stutter, but that turned out to not be the case.  It's possible one of my zen desk tickets did cause them to fundamentally change the AMOUNT of logging of messages/warnings/errors because I noticed a big reducton occurred after the ticket was 'solved'.  Anyway, it's a drag because it kills the pilot log as mentioned.

You can also just turn off the speech part of ATC so that all you get is the text readout.  And you can turn that off I think up in drop down menu by just disabling ATC.
