What is the best experience : FBWA32NX vs CRJ

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am currently flying the Aerosoft CRJ as my go to modern airliner in MSFS. I never tried the FBW A32NX yet. I was wondering if I can expect a better experience with the A32NX ( dev version) than with the CRJ. I am a bit tired of the CRJ wobbling around when passing waypoint, FMS predicted data non sense, and LNAV trajectory bugs. Is the FBW more robust in these matters ?

I am afraid to be disappointed in flying the A32NX regarding systems because I spent a lot of time reading Airbus materials  in previous sim and I am worried to discover lots of non modelled stuff while flying normal ops. But maybe I am wrong ?

Thanks to share your thoughts,

Best regards,

Pierre

If free, just try it. 😂

It takes precious time to install and setup a complex addon free or payware.

According to feedbacks, I can save this time or decide to fly it.

Thanks for your answer anyway

Pierre

Both are airplanes with wings and engines. Besides that, you are pretty much comparing apples and oranges.

That said, it takes 5 minutes to download and install the FbW Airbus.

CRJ is payware and sort of finished (at least as far as they wanted to simulate things), the FBW is freeware and still in development. The FBW A32NX has a lot of things inop and not yet working as it should (like VNAV, just to mention a big one). So I'm sure you will miss a few things on a day to day ops.

But as Ricardo41 said: download the installer and you'll be ready in just a few minutes. No precious time needed.

Writing and reading here takes more time than installing and have a first look... 🙃

I would say the CRJ is pretty much dead. Bugs open since release are not being fixed, the only updates recently have been to sell a new 3D model with the 900/1000 with the same systems and bugs. Some of those bugs like buggy/messy LNAV have been present since the FSX version.

FBW is in constant development, I think if it is not already, it will likely soon be a better experience.

Neither of them are completely perfect, but for me I prefer the FBW A32NX.

It is missing VNAV implementation at the moment so descent planning etc is a little more involved, but on the whole it's much easier to fly than the CRJ. But to be honest that may just be that the Airbus in the real world is easier also. I once knew a pilot for a well known UK airline who had transitioned to the A320 family after several years flying 737s. He said he was very glad he did it that way round, so take of that what you will!

It's also very easy to install and update. Just download and run their installer application and that's all there is to it.

I enjoy both, and fly both depending on what type of airliner flying i want to do.  If you’re enjoying the CRJ I see no reason you’ll not enjoy the FBW A320.  As mentioned it’s free and literally takes a minute or two to install using their excellent installer.

Prefer the FBW. CRJ has just been a perpetual headache for me. One flight, it decided to constantly go into a full pitch up trim when I activated AP and I've seen some wonky engine performance, where it struggled to reach altitude. Decided to just put it in the hangar.

I prefer the CRJ. It has VNAV. Though not in love with either,

The CRJ has VNAV yes, but it doesn’t work right and you’re better off without it.  Plus Aerosoft is slow to fix anything, whereas the freeware FBW gets multiple updates weekly.

Rarely if never had a problem with it and its far better than the FBW which is zero! Only use it for descent like most in real world. Use FLCH for CLM and works fine. Switch to M speed .65 at FL240.

VNAV on descent will dive to a very high FPM as you get close to a waypoint.  It’s clearly bugged.  Compare that to the much superior VNAV on the CJ4, which is free, and you’ll see the difference.

Gentlemen- please allow for one more opinion...

For me the FBW mod comes closest to satisfactory jet transport flight in MSFS currently.  Yes, read that again.  You well know my affection for PMDG Boeings.  Until however, my thirst is slaked there, I drink deep draughts from the FBW oasis.

CbzvcMn.jpg

The feeling of intertia, momentum, precise flight path control and deviation with control inputs is about as perfect as I have ever experienced.  The Sim, whilst in a state of chaotic flux, still often provides breathtakingly immersive moments. which the FBW mod only adds to.  The sound set is quite good, from the cockpit cocoon to the increasing attack and frequency of the centerline lighting domes, to the roll back and advance of the engines in taxi, to the drone in Flex, to the cutback at Climb. From pulling HDG to pushing Managed, or dancing between Open Climb to VS to Managed Climb- the lateral and vertical transitions are exemplary.  Level offs and pitchover/pitchup are realistically brilliant. The lack of full functioning VNAV has only forced my addled grey matter to get working.  Fix circles and simple maths (there's even a calculator should you need it) allow for fully appropriate altitude gate crossings.  The LED Landing Lights driving into the clouds on descent with blinding white flashes occasionally scarring the Retina, the quite hum of engines in descent and the cocoon of cockpit light created by fully functional dimmers leave me enchanted. Systems are getting better each week and will soon be comprehensively accurate. MCDU and FMCGS are scheduled for continued development.

If they occur at the current rate there's NOTHING to moan about. I too am looking for more, and FBW is on track to deliver. There is a steady slate of improvements to the mod (often daily) as well as stellar communication and support by @Watsi et al.  Each time I check for an update and find one (most days) I smile, knowing Fifi is getting better and better.  Between FBW and Fenix, the only remaining salvation for FSL would be for them to deliver a superb A350WXB.

For this superb experience, you are charged nothing.  Of course, should you be grateful as I am, a donation wouldn't go amiss.
