BAe 146/Avro RJ jets still flying in Canada

Featured Replies

For anyone who has the Just Flight 146 Professional or QualityWings Ultimate 146 and is wondering where to fly, 146s and Avro RJs are still being flown in Canada—and probably will be for the next 15 years or so, as indicated by Alex Praglowski on his YouTube channel. Check out his latest video here.

Neat video Joel: Alex mentioned the engines made by Honeywell.  The engines were built at the Stratford Connecticut plant.USA   .Same building the famous F4U Corsair aircraft were built.I call the plane a baby C5 Galaxy. Good STOL capabilities made the plane superb. With  tragic weather occuring in the southern part of the US,  cargo versions would be ideal for  smaller airports. Thanks for the post Joel.

I see why Alex mentioned Honeywell They took over Garrett Air Research.I also read Avco was having problems with the ALF 502 engine. Again, thanks for the post.

These are great little aircraft, I’ve been flying it tonight in XP.

The airline I worked for in Indonesia in the early 90’s was talking about getting some of them to replace its older brother the Avro/ BAe 748 that I was flying . I thought it was going to be a fantastic job flying them around the tropical islands and onto the one way strips we used to go into, but sadly it never happened.

It’s interesting that one of the last places the 748 was flying was Canada, and now that’s being repeated with the 146.

The Dart engine was pretty popular here in the states Jon. I blocked my ears with those  engines a distance away.

Paul, those dart powered 748s were known as ‘ Budgies’ in the UK, a small but very noisy bird !

Joel: I hope to see more coverage regarding the Canadair CL-44 freighter. I saw one years ago getting loaded for it's destination. Neat plane. Too bad there were many mechanical issues with that plane.

I wasn't aware of this plane, Paul. It's not one I'm familiar with. Thanks.

This is an awesome little plane.  I used to own the Qualitywings one for FSX and loved it.  I'm tempted to get the one for P3Dv4 which, according to their support forum, works fine in P3Dv5.

Another neat little jet that you don't hear much about is the Dornier 328 Jet.  It's similar to the BAe 146 but smaller with only 2 engines.  About 20 years ago I flew on one with Great Plains Airlines.  The plane accommodated 30 passengers and was comfortable and quiet.  What a great flight.  Too bad these little airlines don't exist any more.  Now the airlines are all about cramming as many people as possible into larger planes to increase their profit.

I worked on a D-328 Jet for a number of years. Unfortunately the project was shelved and never completed. 😒

I even signed up for betatesting! 😁

(this must've been around 2010 or so on ESDG forum) I used to have the works on Do328 manuals, the Honeywell Primus Avionics CBT etc.
Too bad it never materalized, it was/is a true gem of a plane.

Yes it certainly works ok in V5.3 I’ve been flying it a lot.

The XP version is also superb and probably the better of the 2 if you use that platform.

I too used to enjoy the QW 146, I can safely say if you enjoyed that then you’ll really like the JF146, excellent systems fidelity and very smooth instruments.

II fly it in VR and never tire of looking over my shoulder and seeing those little turbines hanging off the stubby wing.

Dave: I had a Dornier 328 purejet in my days of Microsoft. I had a ball flying that plane.I do remember Great Plains Airlines, and it's feeder Rio Grande Air. I liked the idea of an Apu in the tail just like the Embraer Brasilia 120.
