Payette Lake to Riggins and Back... (Idaho Part II)

Featured Replies

This post is triggered by an earlier reference to Riggins, Idaho. In this post, I lift off, in my C185 Float, from Payette Lake, situated 110 miles north of Boise and about 40 miles south of the town of Riggins. Riggins is, indeed, the premier whitewater rafting destination in the state of Idaho.  Situated between the Main and Lower sections of the Salmon River, Riggins is the perfect launching base for the Salmon River’s rafting ventures...

The spectacular Seven Devils mountains (see images) dominate the vicinity of Riggins. As can be seen, from the pictures, the Seven Devils comprise a series of closely spaced mountains, with the tallest two, appropriately, named "He Devil" and "She Devil"...each about 9,400 ft high...!

And the (mighty) Salmon River abruptly (and whimsically) turns north at the town of Riggins (rivers flowing "north" are always special and rare...) ...! In one top-down shot, below, one can see how the Salmon River, coming into Riggins, from the East, curves upward/north just around the town.

Hope you enjoy the pictures of this short round-trip adventure, in Idaho, from/to Payette Lake, in a Cessna 185, in my favorite livery of "EXTREME ALASKA Expeditions"... (though, flying not in Alaska, but in Idaho...🙂...) ...
