Do developers have a history of releasing products on Xmas?

Featured Replies

Getting excited for the holidays and New Year. I am wondering if there is a trend that relates to developers and holidays. I'm hoping that we see some new stuff on the market by then, but we know how calendar dates and software development go.

Personally, I'm hoping to see the MD80, and FBW A380 and/or VNAV implementation in the A320 before the new year.

I can't say it for sure, but as a developer I wouldn't release anything that short before Xmas as that means that I have to give support over the holidays.

I would be very surprised if any of those would be released just now. SU5 did a real job in wrecking the progress made by devs, and as far as most are aware, still require issues to be fixed so as they can progress. IMO they spent far too much time on the likes of rushing in the Xbox version, and then Reno. Where they would likely have made far more $$$$$ If they had assisted the devs more to at least get one Airliner launched around now.

Also as already mentioned, no one will launch close to Xmas, as there just wont be support available for any issues.

Well, you better hope you see one of those in the next year.
Apart from that devs usually release a couple of weeks before xmas, so customers have not yet spent all their money for xmas presents; and you would certainly build up some hype these days with video previews etc. at least a month prior.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

Don't kid yourself. They made a boatload of money releasing the Xbox version. This is an eye candy sim first and foremost. Hopefully the rest will catch up at some point.

I just got a mail from RDPresets who will release EHRD Rotterdam The Hague in the next week.

Kind regards, Michael

Edit: Just saw it's P3D and XP11 only.😕 So let's be glad for the P3D/XP pilots .

Didn't think of that one...I forgot that devs are people with lives...not robots lol.

Since this was specifically posted in the MSFS (2020) forum, what can be said is, where are the new supporting products? Particularly where are the aircraft models (PMDG, A2A, Milviz, etc), and what is the hangup? It universality appears to be just that! This past 12 months have drained a minimal amount from my sim budget, and this Christmas season has yet to see me spend even one cent (USD).  I doubt the various developers are any more pleased with that than I am.  I would bet few developers are pleased with the past 16 months, much less the past 30 days.

There appears to be a level of release-fear-paralysis? Perhaps based on a lack of ongoing or adequate SDK flow!

This is a well developed industry with well developed offerings across the simulation spectrum.  Something is certainly amiss......
