January 10, 20224 yr Initially apprehensive about the phone number. Then verified with the phone number and the world didn't blow up. I know some of you have concerns about privacy but its a process to eliminate riff raff and it works. There hasn't been a security breach and I'm sure a good portion of you have been the victim of some security breach in your lifetime that you may or may not be aware of. As usual the option is yours but frankly i really don't see what all the fuss is about regarding verifying your identity one time with your phone in order to ensure your interacting with the people you want to interact with and have a reduced risk of dealing with troublemakers. We are in a new era, with different communication formats. You don't have to partake obviously but if one format has its requirements one just has to comply or decline. I find that assistance is pretty much instantaneous. I ask a direct question politely .. get my direct answer from one of the mods thank them and move on. To me it actually works better than the forums. Just my personal opinion. Don't mean to offend anyone. I understand the reason for this verification but my problem is that my phone number is a secret number for a reason I can't really talk about here. But believe me, it is a valid reason. Having said that: I was already thinking about getting a cheap prepaid phone (or sim card only) which I then can use for this purpose alone. I do like the FBW Airbus and look forward to the Fenix one and I do like being able to get in touch with everyone involved. I don't mind spending 5 bucks or so on that. I suppose this is the easiest solution for my 'problem'. (Which doesn't mean I am expecting to actually like Discord. 😉 ) Out of curiosity: the phone number verification is a one step thing? Or is it possible you are asked for yet another verification at random times?

It forms part of 2FA, like many other platforms and websites if you sign in from a new device or location they could SMS you a code to check it really is you. People have become impatient and don't want to wait hours for a response. It's a much more chat/conversational style of discourse, and that can be handy for internal development uses. Then of course you have voice chat and screen sharing too. Hours, how about days or weeks. I can think of posting on forums not receiving an answer from developers for weeks , or maybe never.
January 10, 20224 yr Phone number? Sorry but no. Already I don't like this Discord and this new sort of "fashion" to try to attract people there for each single little reason. Intel i9 - GPU RTX 3080 - 32 gig RAM HyperX Fury DDR 4

Neither require a phone number for verification.

January 10, 20224 yr Discord annoys me because it seems to be the only app that won’t allow me to flag a device as safe and therefore it will ask for my two factor authentication repeatedly. I mean other things annoy me about discord (like the lack of thread structure to make finding things easier) but from a security standpoint I find it irritating. January 10, 20224 yr I thought I was the only oldie (well, not that old, I'm just 37.00) that didn't like the lack of structure in Discord. I could bear that (and abuse the Search function). I've been using Discord as voice channel when playing Age of Empires with some friends (3, max. 5). But giving my phone number to Discord so that I can ask a question that will be buried under a ton of posts by a zillion users? No thanks. I'll let that slide for FBW since they are freeware and they are doing the stunning work they do for practically nothing (BTW, FBW guys, thanks for your lovely 'bus!). But I hope Fenix does not go that route for support or user-to-user forums 🙏 Best regards,Luis Hernández Main rig: self built, AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D (with SMT off and CO -50 mV), 2x16 GB DDR4-3200 RAM, Nvidia RTX 5060Ti 16GB, 256 GB M.2 SSD (OS+apps) + 2x1 TB SATA III SSD (sims) + 1 TB 7200 rpm HDD (storage), ID-Cooling SE-224-XTS air cooler, Viewsonic VX2458-MHD 1920x1080@120-144 Hz (G-sync compatible), Windows 11. You can open Threads/conversations within a channel and they will break out and even be seen as effectively Sub Channels.. Servers are very able to generate numerous categories and channels to have similar topics and structures like a forum.... You can also create user Roles so that you can control certain aspects that can become Read Only channels to those that you don't want posting... You can setup up very intelligent "bots" so that when the same question is asked or the same phrase is used ... the bot will instantly respond ... Discord has Search .. but yup like everywhere else this "younger" generation seems to have lost the nuance of "typing the question" into the Search field first... just like they don't search google first ... digressing .. Search works pretty well actually. Also .. sorry for all those that love this Avsim forum ... but .. you can post images / screen captures / videos with the discussion and not have to upload to another location/service on the internet and then Link it here.... For those that do the helping.. it also works better as you are well aware.. most people when having an issue ... the first response is most of the time filled with a Bunch of questions to help ascertain what the issue is since with Flight sim it's not always straight forward and people tend to not do their best of the rip to include all the relevant info... The reason you see so many moving to discord. ... is because it does work better than being here..... Les O'Reilly
