Need recommendation for reliable, trustworthy GA plane

Thanks a lot everybody for the suggestions 🙂

I tend to towards one of the Bonanza mods now, or to one of the Pipers.

One question about the Bonanza: Is the Turbo mod related to the G36 improvement project, or is that independent from that? Which one is better?

Both are independent of each other, but CaptMatto set up the naturally-aspirated mod as a separate plane of its own in your hangar, whereas Rob Young will mod the existing default G36. So, in effect, you can choose between the two planes in your hangar.

Both are excellent, so it's not so much a question of which is "better" so much as it's a personal preference. Do you want to climb/fly fast and be able to go higher? Then you want Rob Young's turbo-normalized. If you fancy the more classic and sedate flying of a naturally-aspirated G36, you want CaptMatto's mod (I prefer the latter because I'm not in a rush in that plane, I like to enjoy the sights).

Rob Young also fine tuned the handling characteristics of the Bonanza, so if you value that, there is another reason for test flying the turbo version.

The Bonanza G36 improvement project is my choice flying GA with the suberb G1000 NXi from Working Title.

My Preference is the Analog 172 for single and for twin I would go for Just Plane Piper Seminole.

I think you mean Carenado Seminole?

Anyway, the Carenado Seminole is the only Carenado I own for MSFS.  I need to get it out more.  To the OP --  I spend all my time flying the Milviz PC-6, or one of the RotorSimPilot helicopters (R44 or H125).  The Milviz PC-6 is really fun, and not too difficult to get into.

Put me down for the default 172 as having become my plane of choice in this sim. I have a couple of custom paint jobs and custom interiors that I have made for a bit of variety and it flies well while having pretty good systems depth and the fantastic nxi. I only wish somebody would mod it to give us working doors and windows and other little fiddly bits like the 152 mod does (which is excellent).

For the Amphibian version of the 172, I use the mod already mentioned earlier (https://flightsim.to/file/15805/cessna-172-amphibian)

If I need a bit more speed, then the Turbo G36 is the choice.

I like the third party planes, but the defaults are no longer "immediately replaceable" like they were in the past, and I don't have to worry about "waiting for updates".

I also recommend both the Turbo Arrow and the Turbo Bonanza. You can't expect the default GA aircraft to be anything but a gateway to flying in MSFS

I have all four of the JF PA28 (standard Arrow , two Turbo Arrows and the Warrior)  and can definitely say, if you are only getting just the one - the PA 28 Warrior II is the pick of them.  I do like the Turbo Arrow but personally, I tend to only fly the Turbo Arrows when in Mountains needing the performance at altitude, on really long flights, or when joining a multiplayer stream where I need some speed.

The Warrior just feels more realistic and is more immersive.

Another vote for the JF Warrior.  Old school navigation (you can also opt for more modern) and just feels, to me, like the real thing.  And yes, I have flown in a real one.

But still the default birds will keep some busy for a long time.

I flew the Warrior when I was pre solo. Not much of a challenge for me now.

True the Warrior is not overly challenging compared to the DC6 or CRJ  - however the OP was not asking for challenging, he listed what he was looking for (see below) and even suggested the c152 as a possible -  the PA28A Warrior II from Just Flight is a perfect fit and ticks all the boxes.

- a reliable simulation, i.e. without sudden unexpected buggy behavior (any problems in flight should be because I made a mistake, not because the model is buggy)

- well maintained by its developers, i.e. when a sim update breaks something, a hotfix should come out fast

- plausible flight model (in the constraints of a desktop simulator, of course; would be cool if performance data matches POH)

- a bit of systems plausibility (would be nice to not just having to press CTRL+E to start, but does not to be study level).

The OP had all the rec's needed on the first page of the topic and it would be very appropriate at this much later time to respond with a selection.

Thanks again for your opinions, much appreciated 🙂

Still testing out the two Bonanza mods (currently tending more towards the Improvement Mod project instead of the Turbo mod, because the first one has more features), and will check out the JF Warrior later.

If you'd like more info about the improvement mod happy to answer any questions, take feedback etc. We also have a discord you can get involved with https://discord.gg/JVPMYdKx86. My aim is to add as many systems and modelling as I can. Currently refining individual spark modelling & fouling.
