GTN 750 autopilot issues (resolved)

Recommended Posts

I've bought the GTN 750 yesterday and so far it unfortunately has been very rough. After I had to install it four times (reaons were:first no databaseses, then twice a black screen, when it finally workedafter installing it the fourth time, at least it did turn on and load the DBs). Also, the Garmin Trainer launcher is very poorly done IMO, which has made things even less pleasant for me. I now installed the GTN in the following A2A  aircraft: Bonanza,Comanche, C 182 Skylane, the issues are the same for all three: The flight plan is loaded correctly but the AP isn't following the course at all, instead the aircraft starts flying a circle or just in a random direction, the AP ITSELF is not working at all: That means it will not capture or hold an altitude, not follow HDG in HDG mode or even hold pitch/roll while enabled. Since I have flown these aircraft prior to GTN integration I can only assume this issue is realted to the GTN as well.  Also, the GTN trainer app has an infinite loading circle on the 'Avionics' page, which I do not know what to make of

Trying to understand... why do you need to access the launcher at all?

The Garmin Trainer should start in the background, without you taking any action.

Hi,

Please make sure to update with the latest version v2.5.28.10 we've just released yesterday.

NB: each Prepar3D update will disable the autopilot link functionality. This is expected and this has been explained in the forum. Whenever this occur, we're trying our best to release a compatible update quickly.

PS: I also suggest you don't run the simulator "as-admin". There is no reason to do so because P3D5 an RXP add-ons are perfectly UAC aware. If you're running "as-admin" you're also taking the risk a bug in P3D or any of your add-on could wipe out important files from your drive(s), and you're also breaking compatibility with add-ons which are designed to be UAC aware (Windows redirects a certain number of paths and registries differently between "as admin" and "normal user").

Hi,

1 - ADFGVX, would you mind to clarify what you've done in order to get all fine now? What did you do? I am having the same problem you described.

2 - RXP - It is quite weird to ask us NOT to run P3D as-admin, while most addons suppliers recommend this first of all. I understand your explanation, but we customers are in a dead-end.

Thanks and regards,

@Heronjr

Hi,

Can you please post the content of the RXP log files? (see RXP User's Manual for file/path)

As for the as-admin, I understand you might be using add-ons which are requiring you to run as-admin, but this doesn't mean they are also always right asking you to. The UAC system and the "as-admin" workaround has been around since Windows Vista, more than a decade ago, and there is no need at all to run as-admin any simulator, except when an add-on is not designed with UAC related known techniques and UAC related WIndows APIs. The only few exceptions is probably FSX-SE which runs as admin by default and the FSX-SE store purchased add-ons which folders are protected so that modifying protected add-ons files in these protected folders is prohibited.

The problem I'm trying to explain in my post above, is that when running the simulator as-admin, all the plugins also run as-admin, and when these plugins are accessing the file system or the registry, they get redirected to a different view of the file system and the registry than when not running as admin, and this can break things on one hand, and pose a security risk on the other hand. In the specific case of our products, the Trainer manages a certain number of registry entries, files, folders, each with certain access rights, and when accessing these under the "as-admin" view, some are not the same anymore and this can fail the trainer on some systems.

Now since my post above, our solution has additional mechanism in place to try managing the access to the files and registry whether you're running as-admin or not. When the update was released, it just required our users who did run as-admin before, to run again one more time as-admin so that the solution could change some access rights back to a certain condition which wouldn't pose any problem in subsequent runs, whether these subsequent runs would be as-admin or not.

ADFGVX,

What did you do to resolve your problem.  I am having the same issue all of a sudden in P3Dv4?
