specs for a PC for MSFS 2020

hello

Is Intel core i9 with 64G ram and RTX 3080 Ti good enough for MSFS 2020? Or can I save $600 with 3070 Ti? 

And is 1TB SSD enough if I want to save videos of flights?

You can see my specs:

i7-9700K at 4.6Hz

32GB RAM

RTX 3060 Ti (8GB)

HP Reverb G2 VR goggles

flying in 2D on a 1080p screen I see more than 50 fps in almost all situations with all settings at HIGH or ULTRA,  flying around San Diego or LA at 5,000-feet with very detailed scenery addons I see about 35 fps.  No stutters or any other artifacts.

flying in VR with sliders at 85 - 95 I get about 10 fps less than in 2D

I am very happy with my system and perceive almost no slowdowns or visual degradation

MSFS is well optimized, better than any other sim around, and you will have a great experience with your set up. 

The choice of the graphic card depends of the resolution used but knowing that MSFS leans heavily on the GC and that complex aircraft should be released in the months to come I would go for the 80Ti. Better safe than sorry if you can afford it.

Videos: that depends of the average length of your flights, the resolution and of course the number of videos you want to keep stored. I use Nvidia «  Shadowplay » and a video can be multi-GB very fast.

I have laptop with a desktop I9 9900K and a RTX2080, I am limited by the GPU since last summer update, so you should be good to go.

About the RAM, I have the same amount, no issue so far

1TB is not enough in my opinion, you should go 2 or 4.

I’m just finishing a new build today! 12700KF/3070/32 GB. Just putting on the support bracket for the GPU. Once I got lucky and snagged the 3070 last month, I decided  to build a new system when the GPU didn’t fit in the old case. My old system (6700/1070ti/32 gb) is coming up on six years so figured what the heck. Should work out well. I hope 🤞

Iv'e got an i9-9900k @ 4.7g and 32gb ram.

 

I fly at 2560x 1440p

On my 11 year old i7 3930k, rtx2070 and 16gigs of ddr3 I found down the back of the couch.

I can think of plenty of trivial stuff to whine about in this thing but performance?

Go for the 3070 (or even 3060) and double the size of your ssd to 2gb

You will want the extra vram on the 3080ti. I have a i9 12900kf, 64mb ddr5, and a 3080ti. 4k hdr everything maxed and I use 11+ vram in some areas. Thats in GA.  Even city skylines (another game) is using 10 gigs of  vram. I sometimes wished I spent the extra 300 for the 3090.

Your setup is good.  The only thing I would change is the hard drive.  I would get A LOT more than 1TB.  My 1TB is already up to 700GB on MSFS addons alone, so I recommend as big an SSD HD as you can get.

Just because it is shown as „usage“ doesn’t really mean you need it. 
If you will ever program something you will hear about garbage collection etc. 

 

Additionally some software are programmed to „use“ whatever is available. 
i can guarantee you will will not get a single FPS in not a single game because of the 12 vs 24 GB VRAM of the 3090. 

 

tl,dr Memory Allocation is different from what is really „used“.

Keep your 3080ti .. DO NOT DOWNGRADE.

1 TB is fine to get you started and then you can get an upgrade or add more storage at a later time.

That card can be used  in another system when/if you decide to upgrade other components.

If @PoeticPhoenix3 isn’t gaming in 4K a 3080ti/3090 is overkill in 95% of all cases.
