Overexposed skies when looking down in cockpit

Recommended Posts

let me tell u folks I have been simming since 1996, never ever di I have a problem like this,  I have had all the Flight Simulator editions from Microsoft since then. all of them were fine  In camera terms and by the way I was also a film major back in college, this is just plainly an over exposure issue with the simulator itself..

I agree the effect is far overdone...

IMO they are simulating the limited dynamic range of a camera rather than the eye. I can see the dashboard of my car and see outside without it being 'washed out'. A camera, like FS2020, can only expose either outside or inside properly. You can't do both without getting into HDR tricks. FS2020 is acting like a camera. I think they mean well and believe they are being clever and simulating real life, but it is way overdone. The should have a button to turn it off (so those that like it can keep it) or, better yet, a slider to adjust the effect to taste.

This "effect" is literally so irksome that it's causing me to use XP11 more than MSFS ...... and overall, I'm of the opinion that MSFS is by far the better sim.   But this "effect" is just a killer. As someone else said above, it's effects are more apparant when you use TrackIR, and your headmovements from panel <> windshield are faster and more dynamic.

The most frustrating thing about it, is that there is that "eye_adaption=1" entry in the User.cfg that does not work!

Interestingly, last night, I changed the eyeadaptation from 1 to 0 and it fixed it for me.  Did it both non-VR and VR sections.

JYW, guy above you says it works now. Care to try and report back?

Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.
The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire.
To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune.

There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you.
It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.

Where’s the .cfg file for the MS Store version? I’ve never touched it, but for this ridiculous brightness issue I’ll give it a try.

Tried it again and it's not fixed, maybe lessened. Or it's just placebo.

Just tried it. Well the great thing is, to my eyes, the effect is definitely greatly reduced now which is fantastic!

I can still see the exterior being brightened somewhat when I move my head down into the panel (TrackIR) but I'd say it's about 20% of what it was, before the eye_adapation=0 tweak started mysteriously working.

Great find!

Don't know if it's been mentioned here but my problem with it is if I'm in the cockpit view and move my mouse up to open the over head menu, I can't see the items on the menu to select the one I won't.  I have to scroll the cockpit up so it is dark behind the menu.  Then I make my selection and scroll back down.

They  need to fix the too bright sky problem or put a background box of a dark color so you can see the menu.  Similar to the promo screens you get when starting up the sim.

I have had eyeadaptation in cfg  turned off for months

Turning eyeadaptation in cfg to On is far better. As i have found out the last few day it reacts faster, turning it of is a big mistake as your not and it makes it slower to react.
