Showing some love for P3D users with a new major GSX update

Recommended Posts

I cannot even get the update to install.  Tried twice yesterday and the updater just vanished before it even completed Stage 1 of 35.  Others on Facebook groups experiencing the same and a few mentioned uninstalling the current version and redownloading the latest installers which I have now done twice.

I now get the following errors saying that source files are corrupt. I get this on at least 2 files if I press ignore but then I abort as I dont want a bad installation.  I have deleted all GSX folders and cleared my Temp folder (as much as Windows will allow me) yet it still occurs.  I will post on the support forums later today.

Did try with my antivirus switched off. Will restore my cpu clock speeds back to default as a test also as sometimes in the past the GSX updater gave errors if my overclock was enabled.

I have yes and repeated it a number of times.  Have now installed the previous version and run the updater but it vanishes after a few seconds and there are two errors in Event Viewer, one is a Kernalbase error.  Reported it all on FSDT forums, a few others are experiencing exactly the same problem.  Ive also downloaded the latest exe and bin files via the installer 4 times and the last .bin file is corrupt, its hash value does not match that stated by the developer.  I've wasted hours trying to get this to work.  Others having problems also on a few large Facebook groups.

@cj-ibbotson, okay, it,sounds like a general problem. Umberto should have a solution soon.

Warning to anyone looking to sim today: do not download this update yet. Just avoid running Live Update entirely. I've never had to file so many bug reports following a GSX patch. Love the continued adding of features for GSX over so many years but releasing a major patch before the weekend was not the best move.

BTW, if you create a custom file for the walk on gates, how about posting it at http://www.fsdreamteam.com/forum/index.php/board,52.0.html?

Yes the way the FSDT Live update works is a bit confusing.
When run it states that it is updating starting with a progress indicator showing Stage 1 of 35. It then updates various things such as PBR and liveries in sub stages, which hums along just fine.
It then it all ends very quickly, with a split second flash of a dialogue box, before disappearing without even progressing to stage 2 of 35. It would be nice to know what that box says.
I have since found out that the 35 stages refer to the FSDT programs that it can update and because I only have the FSDT GSX then it just updates that 1 of 35. It would be nice to know what that box says
To me it seemed that the update was running correctly' so I tried all sorts of thngs such as disabling the antivrus and malware programs, running it in Admin mode and even downloading the universal installer to try.
The reason that I didn't think it was installing properly was that since setting up a walk in gate it crashes GSX. In the error log I'm even getting something that refers to "name: MSFS not found". I don't have MSFS and I see nothing in the GSX settings that even mentions MSFS. Once I figure out how to set up the troubleshooting log I will run it again and post on the FSDT support forum.

Well, you said you don't have MSFS so, do you find strange the log saying you don't have MSFS ? I would be worried if it said something different!

It shouldn't be a surprise we have working on GSX for MSFS since a long while, and the first step is updating the basic software first, even if in the final version, the MSFS version of Couatl64.exe will be separate from the P3D version but, in the meantime, the diagnostic log is giving all kind of information that might be useful to us, without those necessarily be of any worry for users.

We had an issue that affected P3D related to very long path names support in Windows, which didn't affected P3D users who ALSO have MSFS installed, because the MSFS installer automatically enables long path names support in Windows, but P3D users that never installed MSFS, had issues with the GSX airport cache, which changed its format in order to ADD support for long path names, which is mandatory in MSFS. That's just an EXAMPLE why it's useful for us to know if you also have MSFS installed, even in the P3D version.

And please, if you have ANY issues, DO NOT post them here, use the FSDT support forum. It's already quite taxing for me having to spend the whole weekend replying to all issues, which is normal after a major update like this, but posting here too the same questions, is only making support slower for everybody.

This would appear a suitable point to lock this topic. If you have any issues with the update please post on the GSX forum.
