Showing some love for P3D users with a new major GSX update

Recommended Posts

I've reopened this topic for discussion on the new GSX features.

Please note if you have any problems with the product raise the issue at the official forum, not here.

It cannot be said enough, thanks for the update! Like others have said, GSX is an indispensable part of my flight sim experience. I appreciate your work (and your incredible patience and grace in responding to the occasional absurd criticisms and ingratitude)!

That Avianca livery is great! Which plane is that?

Captain Sim 737-200 for v4 as vastly improved by the Total Overhaul mod from avsim.su . There are tons of liveries for the series, which all work great in v5. Without the mod, it's still okay, but with it.... suh-weet.

Thanks so much @virtuali for adding by far my most wished-for feature to GSX. Now I can get rid of the ugly hacks (hiding the bus inside the terminal model) I used to get pax walking from the terminal at EGLC!

Am I correct that the Universal Installer is the only one that needs to be used going forward and that we do NOT have to use the FSDT Live Update app anymore?

The Universal installer will place a FSDT Live Update in your desktop, you should run that one.

Is the universal installer available yet? I thought Umberto said it is a beta version right now, but I wasn't sure I read correctly.

Cheers, Pete

Actually the universal installer installed one called (FSDT Installer) which is the new installer.  The old installer (FSDT Live Update) is still on my desktop.  My question is just looking for guidance if I ONLY need to run the new one going forward.

As already explained on our forum ( which, again, is the one and only place to get support ), there's no such thing as an Installer vs an Updater, it is way smarter than that...

The program it's just ONE, and it's a new version of the previous FSDT Updater ( the .exe is even named the same ), but now can run in two different modes:

- As an Updater, which works exactly as before, just with a new color theme

- As an Installer, with a very different interface, that allows to do many things like managing licenses ( activate/deactivate ), retrieve lost keys, read the news, read the manuals and, for MSFS ONLY ( at this time ), it can even INSTALL a product from scratch and Link/Unlink a package to the Community folder, and also Uninstall.

The big difference, the ability to install, is very important for MSFS users, since we don't have a Trial version that can always downloaded freely from our site like FSX/P3D ( and that's why we haven't added the ability to install from scratch to FSX/P3D, the installers are always there ), so we were limited by the bad Digital River's redownload policy with links expiring after 30 days, so you had to do backup, because we had the MSFS installers on our site.

Of course, we never left anybody unsupported until now: even those that lost their installer, always got it from support, but now this is entirely automated, and it's all in one place.

So, the program is exactly the same, the difference is from which Icon you start it, the new "FSDT Installer" icon that has been added on the Desktop, runs the Updater as an Installer, the "old" one, runs the Updater as an Updater.

If you just need to Update, they are 100% *identical* ( they ARE the same program!! ), it's just the Installer mode will let you play with more buttons so, the Installer mode is in fact a 737, while the Updater mode is an A320...:)

Thanks Umberto, I found the installer now. This appears to make things much easier.
