Bandwith to low for streaming photogrammetry

Recommended Posts

I got this warning several times today, but my speedometer shows 280-300 Mbits. That does not make sense for me. Anybody else experiencing this?

All the time, and my bandwidth is usually just fine. Quite a few times that pop-up window appeared in front of me on final approach, and if your mouse is focused on something else, you have to escape the flight, click OK, and resume in order to be able to finish the flight.

Why, oh why isn't a simple text message (without OK button) sufficient? One of the poorest examples of GUI design I have seen, ever.

I had the issue with a wifi connection a lot. Since I have use an ethernet connection things are fine on my end....

Most of what is said on the Internet may be the same thing they shovel on the regular basis at the local barn.

I think that's coincidental. AFAIK, the issue is nearly always a remote server problem (or your country's internet connect to them). I think it's often the Bing map server.

Of course, getting the maximum throughput on your own network can't be a bad thing either 😉

Happening very often to me during the last two days. Mostly depending on server demand, which is maybe higher these days after and because the beta SU8 release. It was relatively good flying in January and before this week.

This is an area that needs much improvement on MS side.

This has happened to me also.  Usually after 10 seconds or so it reconnects. I don't know the answer but I have a theory.

My wife is a movie addict and about all she watches is streamed.  So she is  using part of the bandwidth that the sim uses.  When the movie has to refresh it's buffer, it lowers the amount that the sim needs. When it finishes the sim reconnects.

When I was reinstalling the other day I noticed the download going from 106 down to as low as 25, then back up again. So when it gets down to the number programed in the sim the message pops up.

Don't know how to prove this but when she is not watching a movie I don't have this problem.

Run this test - Bufferbloat Test by Waveform

This seems to the reason for most issues.  Run a test on your line.  The issue I have is I have a AT&T model that my computer plugs directly into.  There is no way around solving this as the AT&T modem is running on a fiber optic line that runs through the neiborhood.  An extra router is not going to solve the issue if the main line has bufferbloat.  This is the difference of having a cable line versus a fiber line.  Cable is more stable. Overall I have a good connection but running this test shows problems.

Thanks. That's interesting.   I got "BUFFERBLOAT GRADE B: Your latency increased moderately under load" Only showing small problems with low latency gaming.

Interesting, I got B too, but by enabling QoS on my router and reduce my speed from 250mbps to 200, I got A +.

Could you explain this a bit more, "enabling QoS"  or provide a link? I don't know much about my router and how to change settings.

You have to enter into your router with your Admin and Password and look in advanced settings. If your router has QoS capabilities (most of modern routers have), you can select it from the menu and then give the priorities you want to your devices.

I'm not sure if it'll fix anything upstream the router, but for sure it works in your own network, so it's good to use it.

As mentioned before, on my experience, the messages about low speed connection or bandwidth too low for photogrammetry happen not only for problems on our setups, and to me it's mostly dependent on the servers side (MS's end) or connections not working right between the servers and our routers.

Thanks, Ed. Unfortunately, I don't even know how to access my router from my PC or my mobile. I guess, I have to ask my IS provider because the router is proprietary.

Hi Harry, if that's the case your ISP can probably help in setting up the router remotely as you wish. Fortunately my routers are workhorses that allow me to do that kind of stuff by myself and test to see the results, but I don't play with them very often to avoid trouble. As I mentioned on my post, the issue of low bandwidth messages in my opinion most of the time is not in our ends.

What brand of router do you have? all routers have an address on the internet.

Thanks Dillon for your hint!

I got an 'F' on my first test run with the 2.4GHz WLAN and now I got a 'C' after switching to 5GHz.

Still working on the QoS stuff...
