NO road traffic after updating P3D5.2 TO 5.3(incl HF2)

Featured Replies

After updating from P3D5.2 to 5.3(incl. HF2) I have no road traffic anywhere. Neither on highways, nor on other roads. I tested area's around 3rd party airports and around default airports. No difference. Amongst others I have ORBX Vector for P3Dv5 installed.

I updated from P3D5.2 to 5.3 latest version (5.3.17.28160) by first uninstalling 5.2 client, content and scenery and then installed the same for 5.3. (I did not uninstall academic client)

This is what I have done so far:

-"rebuild road taffic" by putting slider in P3D all the way down and then raise it again tot 50% and then back to 20%

-Toggled only highway traffic and all roads

- verified all ORBX Global files and resynced ORBX with the sim

-checked generic.bgl and vehicles_land.bgl in LM>P3D>Scenery>Global>Scenery. Files were not on OFF and showed recent date (FEB22)

I have no ideas anymore. Hopefully someone has!

Thanks

Wim

Hi Wim,

If you have any release of Orbx Global Vector for P3D, try installing in P3D - Scenery Library after Africa,  the  FTX_VECTOR_CVX folder.
Before installing this folder, with FtxVector.configurator.exe present in Orbx Global Vector, configure in  Trasportation  the Traffic on the highways/roads you want to display.
Set the desired Traffic in P3D - Options.

Thanks Rob, I have already configured the traffic on highways/roads in ORBX Global Vector and I have also set the desired traffic level in P3D options as I mentioned in my post. I will look at installing the FTX_VECTOR_CVX folder in the P3D Scenery Library. I should mention though that in the meantime I have received a reply from Nick Cooper of ORBX ( I had opened a support ticket with them ) that Vector has nothing to do with road traffic in P3D ( except configuring which roads to show traffic )….

Hi Wim,

I was surprised when you write: "I have received a reply from Nick Cooper of ORBX (I had opened a support ticket with them) that Vector has nothing to do with road traffic in P3D (except configuring which roads to show traffic)…."

because this problem of yours with the lack of traffic in the streets, I had it with the transition from P3D 4.5 to P3D 5.1 and I had solved it installing the FTX_VECTOR_CVX folder and I reported it on the Orbix forum (see link) and maybe Nick Cooper does not remember my report where I show that Global Vector has to do with traffic on the roads.

Hmm, that’s very interesting Rob 🤭 I will definately try installing that folder! Will report back here. Thanks! Wim

I have never installed Vector in P3v5 , ORBX no longer supports it or develop it and no longer charge for it.

Hi Raymond,

Orbx Vector is useless to install it on P3D 5.3 after the update done by LM but Orbx still has Global Vector for P3D 5 for sale and Orbx Central installs the version for P3D 5.3 which contains only 3 folders FTX_VECTOR_CVX - FTX_VECTOR_EXX and FTX_VECTOR-OBJ.

In this case reported by Wim where he lacks road traffic, it is not a question of installing Global Vector but only the FTX_VECTOR_CVX folder.

Obviously I am waiting for Wim to tell us if this has solved his problem of road traffic disappeared because we are talking about P3D 5.3 while, as in the link I have reported, I am talking about the disappearance of road traffic on P3D 5.1 where I was not the only one to have this problem and that installing "only" FTX_VECTOR_CVX solved this issue for me and others.

I have installed and reinstalled Vector into P3DV5.3 several times. I have now removed it. RobPol471 is correct with V5+ you do not need Vector. It was originally a product that fixed up errors and deficiency's in the global map of FSX (Plus adding in a variety of additional scenery objects - roads, some autogen, etc). It was definitely needed with FSX because there were serious errors in the FSX Global Cartography especially with respect to the accurate representation of coastlines and islands. The current P3D is correct and hence you do not need to fix it!

I initially had some road traffic issues and some mapping issues - so I reinstalled Vector but after a lot of work I tracked down the issues were some corruptions in my original downsload of P3D updates and a couple of other scenery mismatches. Once those were resolved i did a lot of scenery checking - I have a variety of special addons to do with my playing about with flying boats (Hence coastlines etc are important given I also have a significant amount of addon scenery for this) I noted that Vector made no improvement at all in some cases it places additional scenery objects (buildings etc) that now they are removed were really unrealistic and irrelevant. The coastal areas and it also includes some big cities now look better and more correct with Vector uninstalled. Yes I keep a variety of other ORBX landclass and mesh products because they are better than the default (or more accurate or realistic) but not Vector.

Now the traffic thing - I have all roads selected but a very low level only 4%. I only want to see a car or truck now and then not commuter traffic jams on my roads. With Vector all the road traffic ceased or was frozen except at addon scenery locations where it was obvious that scenery package was overriding ORBX Vector and hence there would be local traffic. I can see why some people are confused as to what is going on with traffic in this case So with Vector gone the traffic as I set it with P3D is back and working!.

Try and see for yourself. I can vouch for the fact that Vector is not required and really redundant in P3DV5+.It actually causes more problems than it fixes!

All ORBX scenery installs more folders now than they used to and they say you should leave them where they install, but i don`t like ORBX installing in the default base scenery and i move them above the base scenery, this is why if open ORBX CENTRAL I have to reset them as it moves the folders just by opening it, and up to now don`t have a problem with my scenery and have all regions except TE no seasons. If something installs in the bottom 2 folders you run the risk of elevations issues.

OK, here is an update..

First of all I checked the P3D scenery library. The FTX_VECTOR_CVX folder was already installed there, together with FTX_VECTOR_OBJ . Both just above Africa. Just Below Africa was the FTX_VECTOR_EXX file. So Africa is in between the VECTOR folders.. Rob's idea was to install FTX_VECTOR_CVX in the P3D scenery library but it was already there..

@ Rob, did you mean that ONLY the _CVX folder should be installed there and NOT the _OBJ and _EXX folders??? In that case I could still try that..

So then I uninstalled Global Vector for P3d5 al together as was recommended by Coastaldriver. That did not help either...

Then I reinstalled Vector, but in a different ORBX library outside P3D ( it was in P3D before ). The FTX folders ended up in exactly the same place as before. Except this time they were greyed out in the scenery library. Still no traffic..

I checked various airports. The funny thing was that only once I suddenly saw road traffic driving on the roads near LOWI . So I thought for a minute the problem was solved, but when I changed location and came back again no traffic anymore.. Also no traffic on other locations ( 3d party and default airports )

I am beginning to think I will have to reinstall P3D or at least the SCENERY and CONTENT folders as there maybe some corrupted files.

Curious to hear your reactions again

Thanks

Wim

Hi Wim,

installing Global Vector completely or just the FTX_VECTOR_CVX file makes no difference and the only thing that I have not seen mention in the post is if you used  FtxVector.configurator.exe, present in Global Vector, and put the check in Trasportation on Traffic highways/roads and obviously in P3D - Options you have put a percentage of traffic.

The fact that at LOWI, which I can imagine is the Orbx scenario, you see the traffic in the vicinity of the apt, as in other pay scenarios such as for example at EDDF (Aerosoft), depends on the fact that this traffic it is  part of the installed scenario and does not depend on that of P3D and should be displayed even if in P3D - Options the Traffic is at 0%.

Unfortunately, your traffic problem I solved it on P3D 5.1 while I can't test it in my P3D 5.3 because the road traffic works for me without Global Vector even if, after the last fix of P3D 5.3, I had to set the traffic to 0% because in apt such as LSZH (Aerosoft) or KSFO ( Flightbeam), I have stutters as I enable one any percentage of traffic.

Thanks Rob! The thing is that I really do not want to reinstall P3D or even just the Scenery and/or content folders, as I have never had such a smooth flying experioence as with the present set-up EXCEPT for the road traffic which I really miss. Sorry to hear that you had to switch it off due to stutters.

Anyway do you -or anyone else- have an idea which files or folders are responsible for road traffic? Perhaps I can just replace those files somehow..

I forgot to mention one important thing I realize just now and that is that there are cars on the road but they are ' frozen '. So what is it in P3D that makes car move??

Thanks

Wim

A file that contains data on vehicles and where you can adjust the speed of vehicles on the roads is   LWcfg.xml in ... User \ name \ Appdata \ Roaming \Lockheed Martin \ Prepar3D v5.
