Twotter mod removed from Flightsim.to at request of Aerosoft

Featured Replies

There might be more to this story than we know at the moment but right now it appears that Flightsim.to have removed the CCM Twin Otter Flight Model mod from their site at the request of Aerosoft as they are claiming copyright over their config files and will not permit modification.

As I say this might not be a completely accurate characterisation of the situation but at first glance this seems a completely ridiculous and petty move by Aerosoft to me, and I can't help suspecting is the result of being embarassed by the justified criticisms of the quality of the product they released.

Is this a mod for the sound?

It's the flight model mod. He implemented both the propeller physics from SU8 and adjusted all the figures to match the Twin Otter IRL and not takeoff at 20 knots when lightly loaded too. It's the only way I could get around flying that. And also the sound mod, without it I was flying with the sim on Mute

Remember, it's Aerosoft, but in some way they're maybe right, because original files cannot be modified without their permission.

Cheers, Ed

flightmodel.cfg files are default asobo templates that numbers get filled in. They cannot claim the file is "ripped off", because it's a templated file. They didn't add or remove anything specifically.

Grey area anyway, and that's just the problem.

i have not bought a single item from them since the Twotter release. far better companes about that know how to treat the customer.

AMD Ryzen 7 5800x3d, MSI X570 Pro, 32 gb DDR4 3600 ram, Gigabyte 6800 16gb GPU, 1x 2tb Samsung  NvMe , 1x 2tb Sabrent NvME, 1x Crucial 4tb Nvme M2 Drive

If this is so, this is absolutely scandalous.  Did they not see what happened to CaptainSim for doing takedowns of harmless mods at flightsim.to?

Just three weeks ago they said they were perfectly open to mods to the Twin Otter.  Was this more MK weasel words?

I will await the facts, but if this turns out to be true, then definitely no more Aerosoft for me.
There's plenty more out there who are worthy of taking my money.
I have been pleasantly surprised by the SWS Kodiak and MilViz Porter recently.  Not so by the Twin Otter - which needed the mods to make it half decent.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's.  Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

Looks like there is a discussion about this on their forum at: https://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?/topic/171109-ccms-mod-removed-from-flightsimto/ with some replies from Mathijs.

I love the Kodiak, but surprisingly. I am pretty happy with the Carenado Mooney and Seminole. They have issued several patches on both these aircraft, and they are flying pretty well now with no bugs to speak of. I bought an Aerosoft aircraft back in my P3D days, and one was enough. Customer service was not on their achievement list.

why not simply describe the modifications and let everyone interested do it himself? that can not be illegal, just like adding/modifying notes in a copyrighted song. sharing the modification itself might be problematic, a description of how and what to change can't be, just like someone in the aerosoft forum said:

"Then make the changes yourselves like you should have done ages ago. The fact that someone can quickly create these important fixes by changing a few lines of text shows that you are not dedicated to making a quality product. "

60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking.

very nice.

This is baloney.  People have been modifying flight models for DECADES.  Sounds like he did a nice job on it too.

This sets a dangerous precedent...

The point is that if they fixed their payware addon  plane there would be no need for a mod. Maybe I'm missing something here. £35 for a flawed product worth £5.
