1st time Navigraph - MFS and FBW A320N did it :-)

Featured Replies

Many moons ago I used Jeppesen Charts, but when Jeppesen closed it I never tried any simular product again.

Since SimBrief is now the only flight planner I use, and since it is now integrated with Navigraph, when planning my FBW A320 virtual flights - "vlights" - I see a rather outdated AIRAC being selected for the planning, which implies manual editing of the flightplan, and integrates poorly with MFS and in particular the FBW FMS.

So yesterday I "lost my mind" and bought a 1 month license !!!

The monthly license is probably the best fit in my case because although I am finding myself trying to find a slot every day since a few weeks to make a short / medium hop in the FBW, I usually don't flightsims that often. It's also why I use monthly dev licenses with P3D.

Well, my first Navigraph-assisted flight was very promising ! I didn't have to edit anything but the VNAV altitudes in my FBW A320 N Developer version FMGS.

I installed the Charts Windows App, as well as the FMC App, although it shows no compatible addons installed - I guess that's expected because I only have the FBW A320 N and the PMDG DC-6 as airliner addons in MFS.

There is now a Toolbar Icon for Navigraph in MFS, but when I click it and login into my account is asks reports "Simlink" is not installed. I guess I will have to install it in order to be able to use the in-game Navigraph flight chart.

A couple of questions for you MFS + Navigraph users:

1) Navigraph Charts during the install found and offered to integrate with MFS. I opted for that, and thats probably why I now have a "Navigraph" icon in the Toolbar, right ?  But, since MFS is supposed to be in sync with each AIRAC, does the Charts App actually update the MFS database ?

2) In order to use the "flight-map" in a browser or inside MFS in it's own Map Canvas, I need to install Simlink, right ?

Any sggestions / hints welcome !

You don't need simlink to view the charts in the sim. Simlink will simply add the aircraft location to the chart and track your flight.

You need to install Navigraph Navdata Center, that will allow you to install the latest AIRAC data into MSFS, which will then be used by the FBW A32NX.

Thank you Sierra and FlightSimToday !

Is "simlink" flawless / smooth in combination with MFS ?

I believe I can still open a browser elswhere, including a laptop, and from there in the Charts Center site track my flight provided simlink is installed in MFS right ?

You can use their charts app with simlink running and it will work....or you can use the toolbar charts option and the same.

You don't need simlink to view the charts though. It's simply a way to display your aircraft location on the chart.

It's smooth and works well.

Perhaps someone should add that an enjoyable way to make use of the Navigraph charts is to run the Navigraph app on a tablet, either iOS or Android. It all comes with the subscription and makes for a very smooth experience. Not for VR, of course......

Well,

the Android is my next test.

I am presently using the in-game Charts window, enabling the aircraft position, but I also tried it on a networked Surface.

Overall I am really glad I did this small investment. It's a whole "new" experience that I was really missing since I used Jeppesen with FSX.

Next time I install P3D or XP12 I will try it too ofc !

Until you decide to keep on paying for it every month... then it isn't a small investment anymore. ;)

PSX has had Navigraph support since November. You need to be running the 10.149 (or later) update of PSX. Complete details on how to use and install the Navigraph database are on the Aerowinx forums.
