Do you still buy payware sceneries-airports

Featured Replies

Something that is really became blatant after using Tobii, is the fact that with nearly all payware sceneries-airports, I am loosing around 10-12fps, the worst I had was with NZA Hobart, looks great, but will cut my fps by two thirds. Flying over most freeware airports, setting to high, 5120X1440 HDR, with the A32NX, I am getting a stable 32-38fps.

The bottleneck on my laptop is the CPU, it's a 9900K and I can't change it because there is nothing better for this socket, Guess I will wait for the next gen Clevo and put a stop in buying non-plane addons for now.

Do you also have the same issue?

No in some instances I get performance gains with the addon airport vs the default.

I'm really impressed with MSFS as running addon airports like DC, Miami, Toronto and Vegas in FSX/P3D would surely drop FPS drastically.

In MSFS I see little to no real performance drops in VR at that.

I'm running DD's  KDCA and DC landmarks scenery together smoothly with some high settings in VR...really impressive experiences here as those are both really demanding addons individually.

I am wondering, at what resolution do you run MSFS?

I like smaller airports like FSDT's Key West.    Most 3rd party major airports are just fps hogs.

Personally, so far, I have felt far less motivation to buy as much payware scenery as I did before.  It just seems like the gap between what is included in the default scenery is what is offered in the payware products is far smaller than it was in FSX and previous versions.  This seems especially true of the major hub airports that are included with the deluxe and premium editions.  Granted, if you look at some of the smaller airports in out of the way places, and the scenery areas that have yet to be touched by MS World updates, the gap is bigger.  However, this changes each time they put out a new World Update.

I have a beast so I don't have FPS drops sever enough to get me below the magic number but sometimes I'll benchmark with RTSS and I can certainly get up into the 90%s on approach or taxing at some addon Airports. The biggest FPS hit in MSFS is flying through a layer translucent cloud in the external view which hammers my 3090 up to 99% and drops my FPS considerably. In the VC its OK though.

Intel Core i9-10900K at 5.2GHz, Corsair H115i PRO, ASUS MAXIMUS XII HERO Z490, G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 15-16-16-36, ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3090, SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2 2280 1TB x 3, Corsair HX Series HX1000 Watt PSU, Pimax Crystal LIght.

This month purchased Orbx YCAB, YCFS, EGPH and EGPF as part of their 40% sale.

With diabetes I can no longer drink (or fly real time lost my medical) so I budget the money I would otherwise have spent on Islay and Speyside malt each pay to other things I will enjoy, such as MSFS addons.

No issues with frame rates. I have a NVME HDD, 9900K, RTX3070 and 32GB ram running a 32" 1440p screen.

Running my Rift S at 1.4 pixel density=2336x2496

MSFS TAA at 90

No idea what MSFS will equate with the Rift S hardware supersampling and ingame 90 TAA slider.

Makes for a great combo though with sharp visuals reading dials/gauges terrain distance.

I guess the fact that my 9900K cooled by a small laptop radiator, my GPU is a M, gladly not Q-max 2080 and I am running MSFS on twice your screen, might not help

That's nice, I bet your 1 tier older gen hardware is running better than mine, not OC or watercooled

Turn down your settings.

It must be nice to have a bottleneck as powerful as a 9900K

In a laptop which can rapidly thermal throttle if my AC is not set to north pole setting it's kind of sad.

But will I buy the same kind of computer in the future? Absolutely, it's just too practical when you move a lot.

That presumably means that the bottleneck is the laptop itself, not the CPU?

I did, I have nearly the same FPS:

- Outside addon airport, nearly all settings to high, some on ultra, render scale 100%

- Around addon airport, all setting to medium, render scale 80%

I will just wait for a new computer before I invest in scenery addons
