Rudder Trim Wheel

Recommended Posts

Has anyone got a rudder trim wheel working? I can't even get a keypress working for rudder trim, well at least I don't see the rudder trim tab move. Same for aileron trim. It only works if I grab the control in the cockpit with the mouse.

UPDATE: Success - good old Flying Iron Sims. They correctly animate the rudder trim in cockpit and externally on the rudder trim tab. That's reassuring that the rudder trim is working. It has no aileron trim though. I need to find an aircraft with aileron trim that correctly animates the trim wheel for peace of mind. The AH P51D doesn't.

Some aircraft also have it - the wheel movement - reversed.

I have assigned joystick ( T.16000 and HOTAS from an old X52Pro ) to elevator, aileron and rudder trim ( left / right ), and even a "rudder reset" button. They all work as supposed although their animations in coockpit can sometimes not work, or work opposite of what is commanded.

Perhaps it is just an animation issue. Is there a way for me to confirm that the trim is getting applied if I can't see the tab animate externally (I set a custom view for it) or the wheel move in cockpit.

Hitting "End" and flying in 3rd person with the HUD should give a display of trim positions.

Or trying to "feel" the effect of the trim by setting the aircraft to straight & level at constant power and then applying eac of the trim controls and watch the resulting sideslip / bank / pitch. Also check the tur coordinator. The ball should move towards the opposite side of the one you're trimming into.

There's a control that instantaneously resets the trim to it's null settings. If you hit it after having applied a good deal of rudder trim, you should easily notice the effect in the aircraft as a sudden yaw / roll perturbation.

Thanks, I resorted to this but you get the issue of how much trim is applied per click of rotation. Very little at times.

Thanks . Works for elevator trim but I don't see a way to show rudder trim or aileron trim.

If you use Axis and Ohs, then you can set rudder trim to slow medium or fast (by checking on one of the 3 boxes). For any button or keyboard key, you can also make the effect continuous or move just one click (by checking one of 2 boxes).
I set it to have available both a fast continuous or a one click at a time trim, depending on which way a 3rd key (my dedicated 'shift' key) is positioned. I leave the shift either on or off to make the trim fast continuous, or one click for each key press.

So for rudder trim I have left key, a right key, and a shift speed key.

These tricks are super easy with Axis and Ohs. As far as I know they're impossible by using MSFS assignments.
