NVidia Freestyle filters

Recommended Posts

I use a couple of filters with MSFS but there is one thing that bugs me - some settings can only be set in big increments. For example, in the colour filter there is a setting for temperature.  By default it is set at 0.5.  Moving the slider left does nothing until the setting jumps to -11.6!  anybody know how to set it to numbers between 0 and -11.6?  I find 0.5 too warm but -11.6 too cold - I would like to try numbers like 2,5 etc.

All my Nvidia overlay filters attached to MSFS suddenly disappeared this past week. I installed the new Nvidia driver and the update to MSFS at the same time. So I don't know whether Nvidia or Asobo reset the filters. Anyway, I soon restored them. But I appreciate your point -- that the filters often lurch in large increments.

They are removed with every new driver update. I have noted mine down and add them back in each time.

Thank you for this info. I did not realize this was the case. I too will make notes of my current settings.

Another thing I noticed with the filters in addition to losing them with every driver update is that the values change. On some drivers I can use smaller values and with others its larger values.

Makes no sense to me.

A search of the internet tells me that Nvidia has never implemented a way to save your presets.

They are also removed with every sim update too.

As for moving in smaller increments, I haven't found a way yet, though I am usually able to get the desired improvements after a bit of fiddling.

Would be nice if we could save the settings somewhere.

Can these filters be used to tone down the lurid green world?

Yes a bit. Also to turn down the default super high contrast and saturation.
Unfortunately the Nvidia implementation is very basic and the values need to be re-entered after each sim or driver update.

The lurid green is more likely if ColourGrading is set to 1 in the UsrCfg.opt file.

Contrast and saturation are very low in msfs by default.

Hmm, ive never touched that file and for me the contrast and saturation are too high not too low, I think it might be that its been optimised for HDR monitors which I dont have.

I cant understand why controls for Saturation and contrast adjustment have never been implemented in the game, these are basic settings that other games have implemented for decades

Is your monitor calibrated or have you used a preset?

By default MSFS has very low contrast and saturation.  When you suggest contrast is too high, are you referring to a bright sky when your eyes are in the cockpit?

No nothing to do with the cockpit eye adaption feature.
I dont know how you are so sure that MSFS has low contrast and saturation by default, im certainly not the first to experience the opposite and have heard the same of many people

Im sure some setups end up appearing as yours does but that doesnt mean its the norm.

That is why I asked if your monitor is calibrated.  If not, the preset being used may be causing the high contrast.

My monitor is calibrated and default MSFS has very low contrast and saturation.
