Flight Sim Museum Youtube Channel

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I thought I posted this here but I guess I haven't! confused.png

I recently started a YouTube channel where I want to celebrate the history of Flight Simulator and all the amazing stories that come with it. Feel free to check it out if you are interested smile.png

My most recent video, which I uploaded just a while ago, is about the AVSIM hack that occured in 2009. I have a few other videos up now as well for your perusal.

Thanks!
Chris

Well done sir! I remember this quite clearly as I was a moderator before this hack and am now a member of the Board of Directors at AVSIM.

It was indeed a very frustrating time...

I see you are a 727 fan like i am Chris. I got to fly in the 100, and 200 series as a passenger. The wing design was ahead of its time.

An entertaining watch thanks for that.

I look forward to watching the future videos you mentioned you’re working on.

I hope you’ll post links up here when they’re ready to view.

Another interesting era was the time AVSIM officially boycotted Microsoft Flight simulator 2000. As a result "The name "AVSIM" was considered language not used in front of children in Redmond, Washington for a number of years after." - Tom Allensworth (founder of Avsim).

By the way I was not happy with the boycott and remember another issue that led some Avsimmers on this forum to support the boycott that is not mentioned in the above article. FS5 (1993).... FS5.1 (1995).... FS95 (1996).... FS98 (1997).... FS200 (1999). As new versions came along, purchased addons became obsolete. Money down the drain. FS98 was a classic with tons more addons compared to earlier versions. Many Avsimmers wanted to stay with FS98 for financial reasons.

Dawson sounds a thoroughly bad lot. I shed no tears over his early demise.

A very informative video, thanks. I remember the time well. It was probably the darkest days of flight sim with the announcement that Microsoft were abandoning such a popular product and then this hack.

It seems a timely point to mention donations. Had it not been for the generosity of the flight sim community back then AvSim may never have resurfaced. Lots of people donating just a few dollars / pounds / euros each goes a long way. 👍
