Real Life Logbook Question

Question for real life pilots…
 

Little off the flight sim topic. I have a real life pilot logbook and I am wondering if there is a good way to digitize it to the cloud, where it would be valid log via the FAA?

I can always take pictures with my phone, but I’m just wondering if that would be a legal copy of my logbook?

Your reference is: eCFR :: 14 CFR 61.51 -- Pilot logbooks.

§ 61.51 Pilot logbooks.

(a) Training time and aeronautical experience. Each person must document and record the following time in a manner acceptable to the Administrator:

(1) Training and aeronautical experience used to meet the requirements for a certificate, rating, or flight review of this part.

(2) The aeronautical experience required for meeting the recent flight experience requirements of this part.

As one FAA ASI told me once, you can log your flight time on the back of a cocktail napkin as long as you document the required items in 14 CFR 61.51(b).  

Now as for storing pictures of the logbook and trying use those as a "legal" logbook, that I'm not sure of.  They like to be able to examine signatures and entries.  The FAA is always a bit leery of "Parker Pen" flight time.  I would recommend contacting your local FSDO for their advice.

There are several logbook apps out there many people use Log10pro. Personally I'm still on paper logs.

I have for nearly 20 years now used an Microsoft Excel workbook (multiple tabbed spreadsheet) to log my flight simulation time and time-in-type.  I occasionally ride along with a GA pilot who uses the Excel logbook available at the following link to meet his logbook requirements.  It appears to meet your criteria very nicely.  If you go to that site's home screen and scroll down you will find a download for a manual.
