I tend to disagree here. I have been following the official forum from alpha times and I find it full of technical advice, sometimes high-level contributions (...over my head) but certainly helpful for the devs in debugging, and containing a lot of good suggestions. It's also quite well-organised once you got used to it. It's subject to the same limitations as all proprietary fora, i.e. you can't start a discussion adulating X-plane or such, but overall I like it.

To give you an idea what I mean, check the threads on the OpenXR Toolkit or the ones on Bijan's seasons or Hendrik Nielsen's ship traffic etc.

I agree, often I have found good info on the MS official Forum, and there are so many sub forums for just about every topic. 

Thanks Michael/Bob, I should go frequent the sub-forums there more .. you're right in how they do tend to be much less noisy than the general discussion one.

What I personally don't get from post like this one is - why has there got to be a 'them and us' tone to the post?  MSFS is spectacular, no disagreement from me.  The aircraft being released are superb, the global scenery is ground breaking, as indeed is the weather.  I use MSFS more or less every day.  The thing is, I still use XP11 regularly too.   Why is there the need to denigrate a different flight sim and the people that use it, rather than just sing the praises of the simulator you choose to use?  I will be a day one purchaser of XP12, and I already know there will not be any global satellite scenery.  For me that is not an issue because if simulating a flight requires global satellite scenery, I will use MSFS, or I may choose to fly in an XP12 area with addon scenery like Orbx.  

MS/Asobo, I salute you, and I don't need to denigrate anything else to say so.

Not worried in the least. just sick to the back teeth of some that seem to appear here whenever any good news starts flowing for MSFS, and do their best to try and derail it. To say there has been no improvemment since 600 days is a joke.

Point taken, but simply pointing out the obvious is not denigrating. [denigrate: to criticize unfairly; to disparage]. It is just a fact that the satellite-based scenery in MSFS represents a major advance in flight simming that goes well beyond any earlier sim in that respect, and it is perfectly appropriate to say so. Beyond this, why shouldn't different flightsim programs be compared, as long as it is done analytically and respectfully?  We all compare restaurants, movies, cars, ballclubs, cities, airlines, and everything else -- why should flightsims be exempt from such discussion?

Because the OP started this thread by griping about MSFS. Are we not allowed to respond?

Only on AVSIM will the small negatives and positives be pushed and twisted to the outer limits - hence the spirit of debate. The glass is half full in this camp. A $60 program out of the box with multiple updates, items on the roadmaps constantly being checked off and the hiring of third party groups by Microsoft to improve upon the simulation authenticity for starters equals clear progress and achievement. The release of MSFS2020 rekindled the hobby to new and seasoned simmers with the introduction of new technologies on the platform. Freeware and payware products continue to build on the flight simulation experience due to the success and improvements that evolve in MSFS2020. Yes, I’d say something has been done in 600 days and what a success story for a $60 software program! Focus on the positive to make your experience memorable!
