New versions/updates of Windows or your hardware may force you to install updates that may in turn require an update of the sim which may in turn require updates of the addons in case of compatibility issues and so on. And those addons may be old and no longer supported, be cuase the developer want you to run the recent versions. They sometimes even disable online activation services for those addons to force you to upgrade. This is not appearent at first. Many people stayed with FSX because "it's good enough". Sooner or later they had to upgrade their old/broken hardware, which forced them to update the gpu driver, which caused CTDs and other issues in FSX, which was no longer maintained. Sooner or later that kind of chain of events will happen if you stay with the current version of everything. That's why it's good to think one step ahead instead of just thinking what you have is good enough. More important though, if everyone thinks that everything is good enough, there is absolutely no incitament for the developer to move forward and fix bugs and create new features. If you really love P3D then the best thing you can do to keep it alive is to be an active community that really puts preassure on the developer to move forward and keep up with the competitors. Unfortunately the P3D community headed in the other direction, being very defensive when people pointed out bugs and constructive critisism and feature requests. This is why it's now heading in the same direction as FSX, because all that remains of the P3D community is the "it's good enough so I really don't care" people. A community that doesn't care is a dead community. A dead community is the end of a software. Banning poeple who point this out isn't going to help you either (I seem to be next in line for that). I really don't understand what you are trying to prove with this reply. About the forced upgrade part, no you are still not forced to upgrade to p3d v5 from 4.5 even after 2 years since v5 released, and moreover every version has a separate license so the question of forced upgrade is not even valid here. Yes only when addon devs totally abandon a previous version then its a different case, but so far that has not happened and I highly doubt that will happen in the next year or two (maybe when v6 is out it will but who knows LOL). There are still thousands of users playing and ENJOYING fsx with whatever investment they made in it, and as a user I will respect their decision and not be like "yada yada playing a 2006 sim in 2022". If the forums for fsx is dead doesn't mean that platform is dead. I am mostly simming in P3D (GA in MSFS) and I rarely face any issues, What should I come here and type? About how my day was or what I had for dinner? (although food is not a bad topic hmm but the mods will delete my post 😛) And about the devs and this line "to keep it alive is to be an active community that really puts preassure on the developer" What do you think LM did nothing to improve their platform? This is the only sim which supports DirectX12. They also introduced trueSky which no one asked them to and it does look phenomenol. Yes it still has issues but then which sim doesn't have issues? If you are not happy with P3D, there are other options out there and its good that there are other options now compared to the situation 10 years ago. I sim in MSFS and there are tons of issues with that sim as well, but I will patiently wait for Asobo to fix them rather than going into forums and getting into a "my game is better than yours" debate. I can assure you that there are people with home cockpits in the eights of thousands of dollars who are still getting terrific enjoyment and realism out of p3d that cannot be rivaled in other new sims I feel like I know one of these people…
April 18, 20224 yr With the hazy atmospherics you get when flying a commercial airliner at FL350 (with EA on) there is not a great deal of difference between P3D and MS2020 when it comes to visuals. So with a paucity of high quality airliners in MSFS2020 and quality airliners in P3D I have yet to master that is where I spend most of my time. However if and when and P3D is upgraded to version 6 and we are all asked to fork out something north of $250 (in AUD) for a professional licence I guess my loyalty and that of others will be tested. Bruce The other advantage that P3D has (in my opinion) is that many of my addons look better in p3d than they do in MSFS. Same manufacturer. But the ramps are textured better. Runway textures look nicer. The runway lights are not on during the day in good weather. Not sure why that is the case. But a few developers have told me the reason is that MSFS has something called projected mesh which prevents them from looking as nice. Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to say in all aspects of flight I think p3d looks nicer. April 19, 20224 yr The one upgrade demand I would appreciate, is for truesky to be opened up further with more options, and to be able to show more than one weather type at a time, so moving between conditions was seamless. April 19, 20224 yr Like so many others, I am very pleased with V5.3 Here is a shot taken some 14000 feet over Northern Italy...with AS, ASCA, ENVTEX, ENVSHADE. Cumulus is set to 4096k in ENVTEX in line with a suggestion earlier in this thread. EA is on in P3D, but no VC. FPS is set to 37, 1/2 my monitor refresh rate of 75. If you see anything that you think would be an improvement, or flaw, please comment. I am always open to suggestions... Sherm
April 19, 20224 yr Dynamic weather (vs. the current Global only) theme for TruSky volumetric clouds is my only ask. Eric

April 22, 20224 yr I really like EA but it totally masks REX’s wonderful Truesky textures. I think EA needs to be softened a bit so you can still see the sky textures. Also, EA causes terrible “banding” at night, something that I thought they’d have fixed by now. A dream feature that I know will probably never happen but this time of year I always think about it is the blending of seasons. It’s like hard winter one day and then the next day it’s summer. This could really set them apart from the other sim since they only have one season.
