AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D Review

Recommended Posts

I wonder what kind of cooler will work with the vertical stacking on the chip?

The very same cooler that is compatible with an AM4 socket.

I'd imagine you'd see very little benefit, I can't even get MFS to max out my 12th gen i5. It's very much GPU limited performance these days, not CPU like FSX. CPU caches have already grown a lot recently, we're into heavily diminishing returns until software appears that can utilise it more.

Thanks for the post -- for some reason I missed Gamers Nexus's review of this chip which answered all my questions about coolers and design. It is a very in-depth analysis of this. A senior moment I think 🙂

Here is the review:

Id imagine you are very much incorrect on your assumptions based on the results posted and the way this sim (MSFS2020) works.

What results? Posted where? In what way does this sim work to use so much cache?

maybe i can give some insights on Saturday or Sunday.

Ordered one on Amazon yesterday should be delivered till Saturday 🙂  I currently have a 5950X so I'm very interested to see what the 5800X3d is able to achieve in P3D 5.3 compared to the 5950X

Can't wait for your review. I have a 5900x and was wondering what p3d5 increases might be. My local microcenter has a bunch in stock.

Umm posted a few posts above that says MSFS results ?

I mean looking up a few reviews with this chip and MSFS2020 isnt particularly hard even if the results werent posted. Additionally an explanation as to how the extra cache works in improving performance can be found there as well.

The only questionable issue right now is how many extra frames to expect in the worst case scenario cpu bound places in the sim and a few people who have ordered chips will report on that.

So 5800X3D installed and did a "short" test.

I can agree that this thing is running hot 60 - 70 Degrees while flying with max  temp 87,8 with a custom water cooling system.

Made a short flight with A320 SL from EGLL Gate taxi out to 27L then turn to 090 heading eglc passing EGLL again and also overflying the whole city center and heading towards dover.

Using AIG-AI, ASP3D, ASCA, Traffic Global, True Earth GB, Aerosoft EGLL, Orbx EGLC, 4x SSAA

What surprised me is that the performance is as good or maybe even better then with my 5950X which is strange.  I think i have less stutters than with the bigger chip and also more FPS while flying over the city. Not significantly more but more, and also the Autogen Loading is working better for me when settings frames to unlimited.

I still have to tune the settings because i made a cmos reset and set DRAM to 3200 with the 5950X it was running DRAM @3600. And I´m not sure if this is the right affinity mask for the 5800X3D so maybe this also affects performance:

[JobScheduler]
AffinityMask=63487
P3DCoreAffinityMask=63487
MainThreadScheduler=10
RenderThreadScheduler=6
FrameWorkerThreadScheduler=2

Acording to Ryzen Master C6 is the best core and C4 the second best.

Continiue "testing" and tuning tomorow 🙂

brgds

If the point of the MSFS test was to compare the differences in Intel vs AMD CPUs, then IMHO the link is useless since different video cards are used. How is one to know if the difference is CPU-based or GPU-based or a combination of the two? And using a 3090 based card vs a 6900xt again isn't really fair since the NVIDIA equivalent to a 6900xt is a 3080.
