Umm posted a few posts above that says MSFS results ?

Whoops I missed the text, I just saw a big video embebbed and thought I couldn't be bothered to watch lol. I still think most of us are GPU bound.

If anyone has this chip and can post their experience here I am eagerly following as I am on the fence for upgrading my ageing 7700K with either this or the 12700K... The youtube tests are not good enough as they are not focusing on stuff the more experienced simmers do like a sim full of addons, more than just a landing challenge etc.

MSFS 2020 with 5800X3D at 4K resolution. FlyByWire A320 low flight over Manhattan. 12:00pm scattered clouds.

05-05-2022, 22:44:07 FlightSimulator.exe benchmark completed, 2326 frames rendered in 37.968 s
                     Average framerate  :   61.2 FPS
                     Minimum framerate  :   50.2 FPS
                     Maximum framerate  :   66.6 FPS
                     1% low framerate   :   37.9 FPS
                     0.1% low framerate :   15.8 FPS

In short conclusion the Simulator is significantly smoother with the 5800X3D cpu. Panning the camera is smother, also camera transitions often experience jitters or stutters as frames drop during the transition with the 5950X. This frame stutter/jitters is completely gone now with the 5800X3D. In less complex scenery areas I am pushing well into 70 - 80 FPS at 4K in the FlyByWire A320.  I will not be going back to the 5950X.

Amazing results and amazing report Benjamin, this is conclusive for me to go for the 5800X3D now instead of waiting for a new platform later down the line. Thank you for your testing!

I just upgraded to the 5950x build 7 months ago. My previous build was an intel 4960x cpu with a Titan X (Maxwell) gpu, with DDR 3 ram. The jump in performance was truly amazing. There will always be next gen parts that are “about to come out”. At some point you have to jump in. I don’t have any regrets. All you can do is make the best decision for your circumstance. Good luck, and happy sim-ing.

What kind of performance does one get when taking off on runway 09L at inibuilds Heathrow with Vatsim and AIG in the Fenix?

That’s the acid test for me!

Wow I am so appalled by this!!

I just did the exact same thing at KJFK 31L with my new kit (12900ks 3090 ti 32Gb ddr5 5600-36) and got … 35 fps on average.

looks like I wasted a lot of money

What was your old kit? And what resolution are/were you on? 4K I suppose?

Old kit was 8086k 1080ti 4K - but my comparison is with the earlier post in this thread, which used a 3800x3d

I am interested on getting this CPU for a minor update to my current system ( i7 4790K ). I am planning ok keeping my current 1080Ti and various storage drives that I own (M2, SSD's and HD) my question is, would my current Seasonic 750W PS work with a new AM4 Mobo or do I have to upgrade the PS as well?

These are the parts that I am considering.

Looks good.  Your 750w power supply will be just fine with that CPU and 1080ti.  I would upgrade to at least an 850w if you ever upgrade your video card to a 3080 or above.

Thank you Greggy. That it’s the plan, to get a better PSU and a 3080ti. Just waiting for the new Nvidia 4000 series to come out.

For anyone wondering about P3D V5 gains with the 5800X3D - it's zilch. I saw no improvement in terms of FPS or ability to load textures/autogen.

Ouch. In that case P3D really 'needs' a new graphics engine.
I had bought my 5800X3D to try and improve the performance in P3D. Instead, I borked the reinstall after I upgraded my hardware, gave up trying to fix it and moved to MSFS.

I have almost zero issues in MSFS. Incrediby impressed by my PC's ability to handle complex environments.
