October 18, 20223 yr Interesting same as for me with nearly the same amount of ms for the main thread. C. W. ,Ryzen 9 5950X @H2O , 32 GB RAM DDR4 3600 Mhz CL15 , Corsair MP600 Pro Watercooled 2 TB for P3D, Samsung SSD980 1 TB for Addons and Crucial MMX500, Red Devil Ultimate 6900 XT
October 18, 20223 yr It all has to be taken in context. I switched from the 5900X to the 5800X3D and saw a very noticeable improvement in fps and frametimes. This is Ultrawide res with ultra settings.at Pyreegue Devs excellent EGPH and this scenario has me main thread limited - just: Ryzen 9800X3D, RTX 5090, 64GB, Win 11. MSFS2020. Moza, MFG, Fulcrum & Virpil controllers. Quest 3 for VR.

October 19, 20223 yr I'm super happy. Pairs nicely with the 4090 I also got. Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers

If I could only get my hands on the 4090 that would complete my new build. 2070Super is not enough and I'm seeing the bottleneck clearly. @John_Tavendale which GPU did you upgrade from and is the performance pretty much smooth as butter now? October 19, 20223 yr I had a 3090. It's very smooth. Especially nice since I run 4K Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers

Wow, that's a significant difference. I think someone got fired at AMD.. they placed the future technology in the 5800X3D

November 16, 20223 yr Probably doesn't need to be said, but I upgraded my R5-3600 for R7-5800X3d to partner my GTX1080 (driving 3440x1440) and essentially got 0% improvement. I didn't expect anything from such a GPU bound system until i get my hands on an RX7900XT in the coming months. I have a couple of favourite tests i've been benchmarking over the past year with various changes - all under the same conditions. I test 2 aircraft (Cessna 172/G1000 vs A320 Neo) at 2 locations (in the air near YPTJ vs in the air near Central Park) with all 4 quality settings (16 tests in all), everything else at defaults i.e. DX11 TAA 12:00 sim clock No traffic Clear Skies weather Fly straight ahead from the default launch point Look out the pilot's view, don't move the mouse or stick. December 3, 20223 yr Hi Folks, I finally caved and decided to go from a 5600x to the 5800x3d. Other specs in bio. I did a light A/B comparison at a few NY airports. Before: 5600x. PBO enabled in Bios: +200 MHz boost, -10 core optimizer all cores, Manual PBO Limits of 110/90/140 for PPT/TDC/EDC. Was air cooled using a Scythe Mugen 5 Rev. B Air cooler with a single 120mm fan. MX-4 paste. After: 5800x3d. PBO2 Tuner in Windows. -15 on cores 2 and 8, -30 the rest of the cores. No adjustment of default power limits (142/95/140). Cooled using Artic Liquid Freezer ii 280mm AIO w/ offset mounting. MX-4 paste. Resolution is 2k. My settings are mostly ultra, and I run TLOD/OLOD 300/400. I have a ton of addons including some global ones like we love VFR and ship traffic and a lot were enabled. 5600x: Asobo's Enhanced JFK Gate E7. No ground aircraft or AI traffic, calm weather, noon. Sitting in A310 cockpit cold/dark: ~40 fps. I flew using the Bonanza from Newark Runway 22R up the Hudson, across Manhattan, and landed at FeelThere's KLGA, Runway 13. Ground aircraft were at 50, but still no AI traffic. Takeoff: ~35fps +/- a few. Cruise: High 40's-50fps. Landing: 34-36 fps. With some fairly significant stutters early on in the approach as the airport loaded in. 5800x3d: JFK Gate E7. ~50fps. (+25%) Newark--> KLGA Takeoff: 45-50fps. (+28-40%). Cruise: 60-70fps. (+20-40%). Was often GPU limited. Landing: 45-50fps. (+28-40%). Still some stutters as the airport loaded in, but much less significant. Qualitatively, it seemed smoother, but haven't flown much so can't speak definitively on that. However, if you're main thread limited, and MSFS is a primary use case for you, this seems like a no brainer if you'd like to milk some more time out of your AM4 platform without having to shell out for a new MB/RAM/Processor. I got mine for $329 on sale at GameStop, and I imagine prices will be down at that level, if not lower, by the time the 7xxx series 3d models launch. And for those interested. Cinebench R23 results. Before: 1605 single, 11801 multi. After: 1492 single, 15241 multi. December 7, 20223 yr I recently completed my build with a 5800x3d and a 4090 and while it looks great I struggle maintaining even 30FPS at heavier addon airports and planes like PMDG. I've dropped the more CPU intensive settings a bit like terrain LOD but it still struggle at the bigger airports. If I can maintain 30FPS with vsync on it's very smooth but otherwise I get stutters. FSLTL seems to give me a big hit. In dev mode it says I'm main thread limited. Is this just a case of my settings being too high? I feel like my performance should be better with this kind of hardware. I've tried toying with the settings and while frame generation helps with FPS it's not compatible with vsync so I get stutters. 5800x3d Asus 4090 ROG Strix OC 2TB SSD 32GB Ram
December 8, 20223 yr I upgraded to a 5800X3D a couple of days ago and am still running a 3080 until the dust settles from the recent round of new GPUs. When I first installed the CPU, I was only getting 3.3 GHz out of it and I had to upgrade the BIOS to unleash the CPU's full potential. Now in 4K at high graphics preset, I am seeing 45+ FPS everywhere, even in complex aircraft. As such, I suggest making sure you are using your motherboard's latest BIOS. BTW be cautious of dev mode since SU11 it pretty much tells me I am mainthread limited all the time, especially in VR where I know I am GPU limited and that the CPU upgrade (from i9 10850K) didn't really improve my previous FPS in VR, although it is much smoother now, but if I power limit my GPU my FPS drop proportionally. 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
