Ryzen 7 5800X3D - Brilliant MSFS performance

We can compare performance when my 4090 arrives.

Ah nice - I was hoping somebody here would get one early to provide some feedback! All the raw benchmarks indicate huge performance gains but how that translates into the gaming world (and yes, MSFS) remains to be seen. That said, at a fully loaded KORD or EGLL my 3090 is getting hammered when paired to the 5800X3D.

Looking forward to hearing more about the 700 X3D chips sooner rather than later...

Installed her last night, taking out the Ryzen 9 5900X. I wish I'd taken some reliable benchmarks previously but you know what it's like we are always tweaking and changing stuff.. From memory though my FPS used to be around 50-60 in this scenario of PMDG 738 on the runway at YSSY.

Seems to be 70-80fps now in the same setup so it seems to be a 25-30% increase.

This is with an RTX 3090 and 32gb and DDR4 RAM 3600@16 I've had for a while.

DCS also got a slight boost, from 110fps to 130fps.. not really as impressive.

IL2 I didn't try as it was already at max refresh rate 144hz/fps on 3840x1600. IL2 engine just blazes along efficiently I never really need to tweak that.

All up I'm pretty [word not allowed] happy, since I was so [word not allowed] that AMD were requiring a new motherboard/socket to go with their new line of CPUs... this is a good outcome, changing my whole box is the last thing I need.

ps surprised that a word starting with d and ending with n is not allowed, times are changing that's for sure...

Nice uplift, the exact same upgrade I'm doing. CPU still sitting in it's box though as I want to install new GPU first and bench that with the 5900x before changing to the 5800x3D.

Got my 5800x3D installed this morning.

A quick test flight - 3440x1440 res. DX12, TAA with Ultra settings. Carenado MR20 Ovation at 9am local time with clear skies.

Sitting on runway at Pyreegue Dev EGPH:

  • 5900X - 50 fps
  • 5800X3d - 65fps

Mid flight EGPH - EGPF with Orbx GB North scenery add on.

  • 5900X - 57 fps
  • 5800X3D - 67 fps

Approaching Pyreegue Dev EGPH:

  • 5900X - 55 fps
  • 5800X3d - 64fps

Sitting on runway at Pyreegue Dev EGPF:

  • 5900X - 43 fps
  • 5800X3d - 60fps

Very happy with the improvements in sim. Would love to test DX11 as this gave me better fps than DX12 but currently affected by the 'gpu is overheating' error when trying to start a flight in DX11. Need to wait on Asobo to fix that but happy with how DX12 is performing.

Both sets of tests were with the 3090.

Very interesting.

i have a 5800x3d and a 4090 upgraded from a 6900XT but i don’t see a big performance gain?

from 25-30 to 32 at egll with fenix a320 with all the nice dlss and other Nvidia stuff activated.

for sure I have less stutter that’s sure.
but the gpu is at 40 % usage at night with rain and the cpu also.

the dev tool says limited by main thread

I have 5120x1440 resolution tried allready dx11 and dx12 😞

am I doing something wrong?

@Donka That's pretty neat. I think I will also push the trigger when the next sale for the 5800x3d is up here.

@331BK You are CPU limited. Your settings are too high, probably LOD?

Finally got DX11 working after last driver update and gains are even higher - mid-flight on the same route was averaging 75fps with TAA. Great cpu for MSFS.

BIOS reset and switched to dx11 and put the fenix a320 Displays from cpu to gpu now I have between 40- 50 fps without dlss.

still limited by mainthread but now it‘s not red instead it‘s with green background most of the time.

Is there anything in the pipeline that will be levels above the 5800x3D?  From what I've been reading not really but I thought I would ask.  Building a new PC soon and still debating CPU and GPU choices.

7950X3D is supposedly coming in Jan.

i'm on the 5900x as well and even w the 3080 im CPU limited at heavy airports/cities @4k.  Just wondering if its really worth upgrading right now. I doubt AMD would put out a 7800/7900x3d thats not at least 10% faster then the current 5800x3d.  I have no issue investing in Am5 platform if the jump is worthwhile.
