Worse FPS when arriving at an airport vs. spawning there

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else experience worse FPS if they arrive to an airport versus spawning in directly in a new scenario? E.g.: at LatinVFR's LEMD, I arrived from a 2+ hour flight with FPS going down to 26 at terminal 4. When I restarted P3D at the exact same time, AI, wx, parking spot, etc. it shot back up to 36 where I lock it. Is this a known issue with P3D? Most of what I searched on similar topics was years old. I'm on 5.3HF2.

More than likely it's the fact that AI hasn't "filled in" immediately after restarting--I suspect if you give it some time for the AI schedule to stabilize, it'll approach parity.

I doubt if that is it. I cant see AI traffic filling out hitting FPS so hard that It would got from 36fps (possibly higher since its locked) down to 26. To find out, when you land and park at the gate go into your traffic setting and turn of AI traffic and see if it goes from 26 fps to 36+

I'd say that its more likely that the stuff that's rendered in the engine as you approach the airport is still taking up system resources when you are on the ground at the gate but that same stuff is not rendered until it becomes visible when you are departing. But that's just a guess.

I'll test the AI next time. I keep it limited to 75 max and only at my arrival/destination airports so I don't run crazy AI settings.

I think when flying a PMDG or similar complex airliner then this is normal due to use of the systems and FMC.

I ran into lousy FPS the other day and whether it was coincidence or not running FSDT live update fixed issues I had at a couple of airports with FPS. Now it's smooth again.
