FBW is eating Fenix's lunch

I think it is more accurate to say FBW is taking a couple of peas out of the plate lol.

To explain things a bit. We don't just simulate PTU sound, like "oh, engine is spooling up, let's play a sound". The movement of the PTU is simulated like the one in the real plane. Means the PTU is going to take action, everytime there's a specific difference in pressure between the yellow and the green hydraulic system. Doing a simulation is about simulating things. 😉

no doubt about it.

But the time it happens interest me ... is it in reality exact at the moment I switch on the second engine?

Honestly, all of these things and a bit more improvements to the VNAV and i am saving the money on the Fenix. 🙂

I just tried to switch off ENG 1 pump during a flight, and PTU entered in action 👍

The reality that the FlyByWire team adds to each day in An32, makes me occupy as much free time as I can in FS2020. And with pleasure. Incredible dedication to this project, thanks again.

As always, thanks so much FBW team. The progress is much appreciated!

Most of what is said on the Internet may be the same thing they shovel on the regular basis at the local barn.

From FCOM:

"..... The bidirectional Power Transfer Unit is armed and both the yellow and the green electrohydraulic valves are open. The power transfer unit runs automatically when the differential pressure between the green and yellow systems is more than 500 PSI.

Note: The PTU is inhibited during the first engine start and automatically tested during the second engine start."

While I doubt that anyone here who is not in the business (and that most certainly includes yours truly) can knowledgeably assess the market potential of payware add-ons, I can't help but notice that the Zibo B738 in X-Plane seems to have suppressed the development and sale of a corresponding payware model in that sim space. It would surprise me if the FBW at whatever state of development it is in at the point of release of the Fenix model doesn't somehow impact total sales of that product. Maybe it whets the appetites of new simmers who reach out for something more and they go on to purchase the Fenix product, but somehow the opposite seems to be more likely.

Happily we can speculate all we like because there will never be a counterfactual against which we can assess the outcome!

Personally, I look forward to having the NEO in the hanger and the CEO in the hanger.... different flights for different routes and airlines. Don't really care what's freeware or payware, as long as they're good. FBW is doing an amazing job, not many freeware we have seen to this standard throughout past flight sims... I remember a great great freeware Orion I got from a PC pilot magazine CD back in FS9!.

Even though FBW is freeware, it sure is setting the bar for what payware should be... if its less than FBW quality, dont think about charging for it.... I can think of one company with the first letter starting with Captain and the second letter starting with Sim... sorry sorry I mean C and S. Yes I just had to.

Hi @Watsi

wanted to know when we could get wheel chocks etc. the team showed previews many months ago but it’s not released yet. So just curious why it’s held up. It seemed pretty much complete in the previews. Would be nice to add those thru EFB.
thanks for the great work you guys have been doing !

I am very much a GA guy... never have liked airliners in sims... UNTIL the FBW. Wow. Some of my most satisfying flights have been in the FBW 320. Thanks for the dedication and hard work.

It always was. But you have to activate it in the EFB. Cause Airbus changed the PTU in the A320NEO and IRL it doesn't do any noise anymore. So we kept it in the EFB to activate it... for nostalgic reasons.

To add to this, the PTU still makes sounds, even in the neo. But it's just not audible from the cockpit since it has been made quieter during operations. Switch to a passenger view and you'll find the barking dog again 😄
