FSX SP1 stutters with nVidia (how to solve)

Advice from Phil Taylor's blog works also with Windows Vista. After having installed FSX SP1 update:1. Update DirectX End-User Runtime to April 2007 update. The link is below:http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.aspIn my case (Windows Vista, nVIDIA GeForce 7950 GT): 158.18 WHQL for Vista 32 bit.3. Delete fsx.cfg and let FSX generate a new one (this is very important).

can't see the point of doing this in vista cause it is Directx 10 on my machine so it would be going backwards.

I think that FSX uses DX9 runtime files in Vista also. I'm shure.I have dual boot on my system, and when I tried to run FSX without installing it in Vista (from the same path as XP instalatin) I got an error that some DX9 files are missing. When I instaled DX9, setup only updated missing files. It makes sense. FSX doesn't use DX10 so it neads DX9 librarys. So I recomend installing April DX9 on Vista also. It will update only DX files neaded for DX9 applications and it WILL NOT downgrade DX10 in Vista.Someone correct me if I'm wrong.Best Regards,Danko

In Windows Vista there are both DirectX 9 and DirectX 10 libraries.

Yes - deleting FSX.cfg nailed the stutter problem for me even although I'm running nVidia driver from Nov 2006 for a 7900GS.I run Win XP Home with SP2 on Core 2 Duo E6700 with FSX and SP1.Thanks Phil!FSX running like a dream now.
