I've started flying again...

...after doing nothing else but tweaking ever since SP1 was released, I finally settled for what I've got now. I've stopped tweaking, I refuse to tweak anymore. ;) And I must say... I'm quite happy now! In the end I haven't much real tweaks left... I only added SmallPartRejectRadius=4 to my fsx.cfg. That's the only real tweak! Besides that I installed the reduced clouds (the ones I also used before SP1) and Genreloaded trees from Adnan Arif: they blend nicely with the textures so autogen setting Normal isn't too bad anymore (I was used to Very dense end even Extremely dense). Nice thing is I have water at 2x high now, which I like a lot! And o yes, I renamed all the reflections-files to give me a clear look.So today I did my first SP1-flights. Above Norway (o yes, almost forgot: Norway looks AWESOME thanks to the Norwegian mesh and Norway Scenic X!!! They are both free: if you fly above Norway you are nuts if you don't download those!). And to make this an even more happy ending: I have n almost steady fps of 30 now...! (Maxed to 30 so it might be even higher). Looking outside (with the Track IR 4 Pro) and seeing this passing by at 30 fps isn't exactly a punishment, now is it?http://i12.tinypic.com/4qgkgef.jpghttp://i16.tinypic.com/53ha59c.jpgI have to say I just LOVE those reflections! They really make up for the loss of autogen. ;)Only things that still bug me are the blurries and the popup of autogen. But I won't tweak on that anymore until someone has a REAL new idea. Popup is something I will have to live with (DX10 maybe) but I'm hopefull the blurries might get solved somehow... Who knows... Until than I am happy now with what I've got. Hopefully I'll stay that happy for the time to come... ;)

Me too, :-jumpy I've been flying both my new airliner (Wilco Bus) and VFR, and no tweaking whatsoever lately, here are some shots from the western fjords of my lovely home country:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...58175&mode=fullHowever, those tweaks you mentioned may work for me too, so I wonder if you could provide me with some more details, like what section to put the SmallPartRejectRadius and maybe what / where Genreloaded trees from Adnan Arif is.EDIT: Never mind, I found the tweaks and files in the forum, trying it now ...Eagle

About the tweak (copied without permission from Phils' blog ;) ):[sCENERY]SmallPartRejectRadius=Basically this culls out small model parts (e.g. air conditioners on roofs of buildings, aircraft doors) if their radius would occupy less than the specified number of screen pixels. The default is 1.0 (i.e. 1 pixel). 2, and 4 are the next 2 settings we advise. Can significantly improve performance but may cause

J Van E, do you have a link for the Norwegian mesh and scenery?

Hi,The Scenic X package is indeed a great enhancement over the default scenery, if only because it uses far more realistic (but still default) textures. (forrest/bush-like instead of those nasty yellow "desert-like" textures on a lot of mountains.Flying tip: follow the road #63 from Andalsnes to Geiranger, over the Tr

Actually there is a lot of difference between the FSX default mesh and Norway Quality Mesh, the latter having much more detail. If you use Norway Bridges you`ll see the ramps hanging in mid-air with the default mesh. The models are much more close to real-world with the Quality Mesh. Being a Norwegian and knowing where the details are, I would never fly without it. The default mesh is SRTM, but you should not be tricked by "SRTM"...the Quality Mesh is far better. My models (existing and upcoming), will always be adjusted to this addon mesh for ultimate realism :-scatterPS: If using this mesh, set the resolution to 76m.

>There's not much point in using the addon FS9 Norway mesh>(which was a great improvement for FS9), because FSX uses the>same mesh resolution for this area now, as far as I can tell.As Loke said, there SURE is a difference! Here's a picture I made: just look at the default valley and the Norway Quality Mesh valley. I made this picture to show the difference between the textures, but you can clearly see the differences in mesh too! The overall look (the skyline) might look a bit the same, but the Norwegian mesh has a LOT more detail. The mesh is free and it IS a HUGE improvement, so... go get it! ;)http://i14.tinypic.com/4kkas81.jpghttp://i11.tinypic.com/66ncc42.jpg

OK, you convinced me about the addon mesh :-)Hadn't noticed that yet, probably caused by the hugh improvement because of the textures alone ..Cheers, Rob

And away I go again, this time from Haukasen to Bringeland, which had a surprise for me in store...!http://i7.tinypic.com/5y037ll.jpghttp://i12.tinypic.com/4op8k01.jpghttp://i16.tinypic.com/632q4oj.jpghttp://i19.tinypic.com/505ub9h.jpghttp://i14.tinypic.com/6hhirsx.jpghttp://i17.tinypic.com/4pluv13.jpghttp://i15.tinypic.com/6h4hwk5.jpghttp://i14.tinypic.com/4zcmno8.jpghttp://i11.tinypic.com/67qv66t.jpgWow! Nice scenery! So this happens to be one of the (up to now) three updated Norwegian airports! Very nice and VERY high res scenery! Cool! I have Scenery objects at Normal: maybe I should have set it to Extremely dense just for this occasion...? I noticed it hadn't popped up yet on final (see the pic)... Also most textures during the flight were loaded only when I passed them, and autogen keeps on popping up everywhere too... But still, it looks awesome. All in all I'm having a good time flying from airport to airport (and saving the flight as default when I'm cold and dark again) in Norway!

Thx for showing those pics :-)I am not at liberty to post pics myself for the time being, but I clearly see now that I have to make a separate screenshots page for Norway Scenic / Quality Mesh at my site. It will be up and running in approx. 14 days, when I am "feet dry" again.I just updated the FSX page. If you press the "Scenery Info" button, there will be a direct link to all FSX scenery at Flightsim.no.Happy flying, guys!

From Bringeland I went to Floro. I took some nice shots, only to find out I hadn't FSScreen running... o well... From Floro I went to Anda.Hope you don't mind me repeating this over and over again, but I just LOVE 2x high water (which I'm using since SP1)!!!http://i13.tinypic.com/4pwjkee.jpghttp://i16.tinypic.com/63murn7.jpgEr... there is supposed to be an airfield there... I AM flying the right approach according to the GPS...http://i9.tinypic.com/6bcrj82.jpgAha, now I see... Due to the mountains they've planned to approach at an angle of bout 45 degrees. Nice... The approach from the other side is straight in: looking at the GPS I though they had two strips, but they don't. http://i17.tinypic.com/4yg8v2f.jpgMaybe next time I'll go around and approach from the other side. Aaaaaah, look at the reflections on that water... ;)http://i15.tinypic.com/5z6b9yo.jpgBTW I'm so EXTREMELY happy with my Track IR 4 Pro! Looking around is so easy and natural! Awesome! I really can't fly without it anymore!!!

Hey J Van. Your sim really does look great. Did you ever solve that problem of low fps in mountain areas? And I'd love to hear what tweaks you've used.

No, I didn't solve it... Well, I sort of solved it by setting Autogen to Normal... And my problem wasn't really the mountains but the trees on the mountains. All my tweaks (which aren't much) are already in my openingspost... ;)
