PMDG 737 - flight planning not great, otherwise seems good

Simbrief integration is essential. PMDG is still living in 2014 while my FBW (and others) fly in 2022. Its EA and they have time until the -800 arrives to convince me its a finished product and not an EA like now

Tell this to the real world pilots who have to enter the data manually.

It's the same as with all first releases of AddOns for Flightsims, none of them are probably bug-free, a first update will probably fix some things - at least I hope so !

( Would be nice they could fix this Gear up/down Issue with the Honeycomb Bravo Throttle )

cheers 😉

The fix has been in the works for years according to PMDG. It was supposed to be rolled out for the 747 for P3D at first, now it‘s apparently coming to the NG3, even though they don‘t have proper debugging tools in MSFS yet. Take what you will from that…

It's a 737. Did you buy it?

I'll use my credit on the -800.

Yes but this LNAV behavior in these complex sid and stars has apparently been a ongoing problem  since the old ngx and if this indeed hasn’t been fixed yet it’s disappointing.

Yeah but they gotta make the $$$$$

I flew a SID out of KSJC last night that includes a climbing 180 degree turn after takeoff and it over shot the turn and busted the 250kt speed limit.  That’s a sample size of  1 for me but I was surprised it happened.

Sample size of 2 here.  It overshot the GIDGT2 departure out of KLAS off of 26R.  The Zibo has handled that departure perfectly the 20+ times I've flown it.  I've probably flown that departure with every complex airliner on X-Plane and the A32NX many times and don't ever recall overshooting that turn.  Also overshot the turns on the FYRBD1 off of 26 at KPHX.  I've probably done that departure more than the one at KLAS and don't recall anything overshooting.

I'm not bashing by the way just pointing out my experience with the LNAV on my first two flights.

It's great. But. I would like to be able to load fuel and passengers etc from an EFB. I mean the DC6 has an EFB so it's a bit of a backward step that the 737 doesn't. Also, for the life of me I can find a way to switch to metric for fuel and weights but I expect that's just me.

Menu > PMDG Setup > Aircraft > Displays > On Page 9 you can switch between LBS and KGS.

Amazed how many people see Simbrief integration as a deal breaker or some serious shortcoming; is it really such a burden to punch in a few airways? Many pilots have to do this in real life as they only get paper OFP from ops.

Well, on long flights yes it is annoying.... and to be honest I usually have an hour or two to sim. So I like to get going as soon as I can. I find the FBW 320 pretty darn quick to get up and running. Not a deal breaker for me, but an annoyance. I was also kind of surprised they didn't implement an EFB tablet like on the DC6. Would be nice to have some FO functionality. I don't own a PMDG product, I think I would probably buy the DC6 before the 737 in reality. It will be interesting to see what features the Fenix Airbus will have.

You can still import a Simbrief flight plan with a few steps - Sure it's not as easy as you would do it in the FBW A320 but you still don't have to put in all of the waypoints/airways etc.

Said simbrief integration, ACARS/CPDLC implementation, proper LNAV performance, smooth animations, automated playback of cabin announcements,…

well, some comments.

simbrief - not as simple as importing like with the FBW but use the simbrief downloader and it puts the .rte file in the PMDG folder and then you can select and load the FP from within the FMS

LNAV - working flawless here with SIDs and STARs, no issues at all

spacer.png

- smooth animations: seen here on my end, wouldn't know how they could be smoother

- animated playback: not heard tbh but that's no a dealbreaker for me, your milage may (obviously) vary, same for ACARS/CPDLC

Do PMDG supply a comrehensive user manual for the B737 ?

Second request. Surely this is not a difficult and hard question to answer ??

or do you want to ignore my post again ??

In your PMDG folder in the Community folder -

C:\FS2020\Community\pmdg-aircraft-737\Documentation  or where ever your Community folder is located.

lol right, it’s not a deal-breaker obvs, but it’s quite funny how much special pleading goes on whenever it comes to PMDG. Surely a person can like a product overall, without feeling the need to defend everything about it?

Sure, some airlines require pilots to punch in their routes.

But the actual 737-700 offers datalink capabilities, many airlines actually use them, so the much-vaunted PMDG version should offer the best-in-class simulation of what is actually available, not some clunky alternative.

Anyway, hopefully it will get fixed soon 🙂
