Have another double, Doug! 🥃  I'll join you! 😀

Let's do it at the Iron Horse on Maiden Lane. I wasted many afternoons there in a prior life. God, what I would give to be back in 1972 again.......and I'll buy.

You are all entitled to pronounce avsim in whatever way pleases you.

However, to settle the debate on the official pronunciation, I refer you to none other than the man himself (time = 1:46 in case the link doesn't skip directly to it) :

Rest in peace Tom, and thanks for creating a place for us wannabe (and actual) pilot nerds to debate silly topics such as the pronunciation of avsim.

As Tom does on that video, I've always called it AV-SIM (i.e. the first half of AVRO, with SIM tacked onto the end).

At least there is now a definitive answer. So perhaps not so silly after all.

I have always believed it to be a clever substitute for our beloved game 'F-SIM'. But since that was not a unique name, I assumed Tom spelled it like AVSIM.

Charlie, we're out ranked. Tom would know.

I think We are in the minority on this one!  It's just how I have always done it!  If I were to bump into someone and learned they were a flightsimmer,  I would say I am a member of A V Sim.

I communicated with many members over the years that called it Av, as in have, sim and I've always called it that. At the Orlando FSExpo I heard many people use the same pronunciation.

However, I don't think it really matters one way or the other. I think most simmers would know what you were talking about.

Thank you.

Don't most Brits drop the "h" anyway?
