PMDG - still no proper DME ARC

Nerdish fascination with the DME ARC here - just tried one in the 737 but even after all these years, PMDG still aren’t doing it properly.
 

Instead of a smooth arc drawn on the ND at the appropriate radius from the DME/VOR, they’re using the workaround they’ve had for ages: a series of pseudo-waypoints close to each other and joined by straight lines forming a polygon instead of an arc.

 

The trigonometry is hellish, presumably - but FBW have had this feature working perfectly since January (link below). I had therefore expected at least as good from PMDG.

Interestingly, even the Aerosoft CRJ has this feature.

yes you need to post this on their forums.. don't know why the haven't managed to improve this and the drawings on the ND. On two live Youtube streamers you could also see a drawn leg flickering during a SID. This has been the case since fsx.

Apparently, those issues are not important to them for so many years. You would expect to have it fixed by now, especially that is a "study material" as they claim. 

Good luck with bringing that on their forum, their soldiers will jump on you for pointing out any discrepancy, including RSR, you are one of the 1%.

Too bad, the potential is there.

To be honest, I do like this 737 in MSFS but there is always something annoying ported over from FSX, P3D to this new platform that makes me wonder why they are so stubborn on fixing core functions on these types of the airplanes.

I get that PMDG absolutely sucks when it comes to their promised-and-never-delivered LNAV update but this is such a hilarious statement.

I mean, we used to do them for years before NDs and FMCs even existed. Turn ten, twist ten! They're certainly flyable, and even IFR legal.  😉

Now where it really comes into play is on RNP AR procedures that use RF legs.  The capability is coming; PMDG has been pretty transparent about the timeline here.  The emphasis was to get the 737 released for MSFS first, as one small bit of capability wasn't worth holding up the release for... and it's evident they're correct, given how many people (including myself) are enjoying having the aircraft in MSFS now, as-is.

But yes, LNAV 2.0 is on the way. Details on their forum.

I would like to point out that on most occasions they left unfinished products (even though they promised to fix them before the new releases or a new platform) for the same statement that "the emphasis was to get xyz released for...." 

We'll see, but from past experience with their way of doing business, I hold my breath.

Now, don't get me wrong please, there is not only "one small bit" of issues, there are many ported over from the other versions that I'm sure you noticed as a real driver, especially the 737.

That's one of the reasons why many people are not so happy about them.

I just tried to track this down on PMDG’s forums and based on what I found, I now feel fairly astonished. Mr Randazzo admitted in March 2019 that LNAV was basically the same as in 2002 and that an overhaul of LNAV was “long overdue”. That’s over 3 years ago 😶

 

I made a post there. I expect it will receive the usual dismissive response, or no response. 
 

What perplexes me the most, is the attention lavished on silly details like sound effects from the cabin and textures of knobs and so on, plus seemingly endless time available for making long-winded videos to post on YouTube, when something absolutely fundamental to the functionality of the aeroplane is knowingly left in this unfinished state.

Some comments were already made here before the launch, but if pmdg seems more like a religion than anything else, now is when they tell me that I can't criticise PMDG because I have few posts on avsim.

If that really perplexes you, you must be new to the game. It's been always like this, not only for PMDG (they are, however, one of the worst offenders).
Now pose yourself one question: What would generate more sales among MSFS simmers? A video about DME ARCS properly drawn with LNAV? Or a video about cockpit textures? PMDG does what sells best, and they are as good in this as anyone.
Me and you we might really miss a good LNAV, but we are not the majority, not even close to.

I thought we were aware of this already as it was mentioned it wasn't coming with LNAV 2.0 at release but maybe some people missed those posts over at PMDG.

Seems like there is a gap needing filled by a community developed 737. I respect the work of PMDG and I respect those who value their work but the monolithic legacy payware developers are being challenged to raise their game like never bofore. How will they respond?
