FBW vs. Fenix for Casual Airbus Flyer

For casuals, def go for the FBW. I don't understand why anyone would tell you to fork out the $50 for a study level aircraft when a free alternative for you is available.

The upside for this approach is that you can always get the Fenix later on

FBW is not for casuals but more serious simmers, casuals would use the default A320 Fenix is for the Hardcore, maniac more simmer who would probably build cockpits to use the simulation.

I had never flown a serious airliner before in MSFS (or previous flight sims), i.e. anything beyond the basic default planes. It goes without saying that I had never tried the FBW.

Based on the reviews (particularly since the update) and the desire for a new challenge, I decided to go for the Fenix. My fear was clear: I have kids and a demanding job, and worried that I could not find the time to fly it.

Well, based on one or two YT tutorials, I managed to get acquainted with the plane, go through the checklist and understand everything to get the Fenix in the air within about 2-3 hours. Did it again last night on my own last night. This thing is amazing, absolutely stellar.

Tonight is my next challenge: landing the beast 🙂

You need both of them in your life which will not be difficult because one is free of charge.

Specs: 11900K (5ghz), 64GB ram 3600mhz, RTX 3080 ti

Funny you should mention that, I literally just installed the FBW and will do some flights today. I do have the Aerosoft A320 package for P3dv5 and I flew it a decent amount, so if it is similar to that I don't expect to have any serious issues.

Cheers, Pete

If you know how to work the FSLabs jets, you’ll be right at home with the FBW, they work basically the same. As for your issues with loading the FBW we’re are you sourcing the plane from, the FBW site?

Which version of the FBW was integrated with the world flight planner?  Was it the Dev version I thought I read somewhere?  What is wrong with the Dev version?

The capability is basically the same for all 3: It kinda works if you enable it in the efb, but the chance of running into issues is high.

I learned the Airbus with the FBW and i flew the Fenix some days ago without any failure directly after installing it. I deinstalled the FBW yesterday.

Its a nice feeling to know all the systems are good simulated even if i dont use all of them.

Its fun to fly and looks unbelievable good.

The EFB is a wonder.

I actually got the Fenix shorty after and it’s fantastic. The FBW I was having issues with was from the FBW site, but now that I fly the Fenix I am good to go.

How was your first landing? 🙂

Once the FBW gets proper VNAV ie T/D I'll go back and use it as well as it's got better range than the Fenix. FBW is still fun and I enjoy flying it.

You can make the Fenix as easy or as hard as you want. To me it isn't really that harder than the FBW you just got more buttons to push or information to enter.

Running i5-9600K @ 4.8ghz - 32GB DDR4 3200mhz - GTX 3070.

FBW was a nice start, but to be honest once the Fenix A320 came out I stopped flying the FBWA320 altogether. No offense. I totally respect all the hardwork and dedication and time that they've put into the project and wish them all the best. But the Fenix A320 is almost the complete package for me. There are a few majore features that were missing from the FBW version that I kind of ruined the immersion for me. Those were the coupled MCDU's and the incomplete VNAV implementation.

Now I mainly fly the Fenix A320 and PMDG 737.

You could just select start ready to fly I think.  Then you just have to worry about no flight plan.

What you mean by coupled?

The MCDUs work independently, so you can have Flight plan on one screen and something else on the other.  The FBW only allows 1 MCDU, the other one is just a duplicate.

I agree with you guys. But in this context the answer was more to what to choose between the FBW and Fenix for a casual.
