Best payware airports in Europe for airliners

Featured Replies

Up until now and while waiting for the PMDG 737, I haven't bought many airports but now with the 737 released, I'm planning to get some more highly detailed airports. Since I do all my flying in Europe, that is the area I'm interested in. Should also mention I do all my flying online on Vatsim. Meaning I prefer airports with no static aircraft models. Or at least, an option where I can switch static aircraft models OFF.

So far, these are the airports I have. Where the majority of them unfortunately come with static aircraft models which can't be switched OFF...

FlyTampa Copenhagen
Orbx Vienna
Orbx Lees-Bradford
Orbx Molde
Orbx Gothenburg
Orbx Malmo
Orbx Bromma
Orbx Innsbruck

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

AS EBBR, also available via orbx, not sure though about static aircraft setting

EBBR and EDDK are definately the top spots for fidelity and quality in modelling.

Simwing's EDDM is also very good.

Didn’t realize these had static aircraft that can’t be removed. That’s annoying isn’t it

Indeed it is. ORBX is totally dropping the ball on this. How difficult can it be to get your developers ship their airports with 2 AFD's, one for with Static and one without Static aircraft, and have that as a switchable option in ORBX Central. Some of these Airports have been out for MSFS since release and they still haven't bothered to fix this.

With P3d it’s just removíng a bgl file. That’s not possible with these airports? I haven’t spent the time to analyze msfs files yet so no clue how they are different/similar to how things were done previously on esp platforms

I bought FlyTampa LGAV recently and have to say it’s really good.

Beautiful model of the world got a nice collection for a fair price, but the file hosting and payments are down because of the Ukrainian war.

What about static aircraft models?

As Farlis already said, Orbx seem to really like these static aircraft models. I guess one reason might be how they primarily develop small airports. Where I guess it makes more sense having static aircraft models since it's not so likely you'll see other "live" aircraft there.

Regardless, it's really sad to see how both Orbx as well as other developers such as FlyTampa with their EKCH include these static aircraft models which to a large degree ruins the experience for all of us flying online. Not including a simple option to switch the models ON/OFF in a payware scenery is nothing but bad.

I've had this discussion elsewhere as well where the conclusion was the best thing we can do as customers is letting the developers know and if they don't listen (for whatever reason...), vote with our wallets.

Not having the ability to remove static is some what annoying - Especially if you are on an online environment such as vatsim and you wish to use a stand or you are told to park on X but it's ruined by the fact that some static model is in its place. They really should give us the option to remove them.

It's not like it's not impossible - The fairy new release offered on the Orbx site mentions this in the features:

  • New static aircraft with Control Panel option to remove

I just wish they make this an option on all releases and go back and update the previous ones to give us that option.

Simwings EDDH is also really nice, if a bit heavy on the VRAM (as is Gaya LOWW). Aerosoft's EBBR has already been mentioned, but their EDDB is also very well done, including the inside of the main terminal, while being very performance-friendly!

I'm also quite happy with JustSim's EDDL, altough it's not quite on the level as the Simwings offerings or absolute masterpieces like Aerosoft's EDDK.

DigitalDesigns LOWS is another diamond that I can recommend, especially considering the interesting approach options into Salzburg and the surrounding scenery!

There are none. Or if there are you can switch them off.
