Should Asobo postpone WU for game fixes

Recommended Posts

As much as I appreciate the world updates, especially as they are free, I cannot get my head around the existing issues in the game and wishing Asobo would concentrate on those first. It feels a bit like the WU are the finer details when the base product is still not sorted out.

Perhaps I'm in a minority but would much prefer to see update news for the following, rather than getting another World Update...

1. Live Weather

2. Live traffic

3. AI ground handling

4. ATC

5. General aircraft handling improvements

6. Trim wheel issues

7. Snow effect on different surfaces

8. Other irritating bug fixes

On top of all that, I would like to see all aircraft with operating doors. WU's are good, but only when they help to improve the sim, not the case with some recent ones (PG in Rome, Naples, to me was degraded).

They do. They've been hiring all the time, and at this very moment there are about 15 job openings related to "fixing stuff" in MSFS: https://www.asobostudio.com/careers

That means it isn't an issue of resource allocating, it's an issue with availability of resources.

Just stopping the World Updates and other content doesn't help a single bit for fixing the bugs.

Yes, what @pstrub said.  One requirement to work at Asobo is that you must speak French, for some of the teams inside Asobo, from what I have heard.  I think finding 3D modelers and 3D artists in France is very easy so finding a 3D artist or 3D modeler is like a dime in a dozen.

The hard part is finding qualified software developers who have a background in engineering/physics, and understand flight dynamics, and can speak French.  That's not an easy position to fill.

Software developers in France that can speak French?  Yeah, I'm sure Asobo can find those, even though there is a shortage of software developers in many countries already.  But also with a background in physics and can understand flight dynamics?  Now it's not so easy.

And even if you can find a software developer that can satisfy all these criteria, then you have to train them on the MSFS SDK, the architecture and framework for MSFS, and all the other MSFS specific knowledge in a software project like MSFS.  That alone takes 1 to 2 months before any software developer starts to become productive for their team.

PS. It's amazing that given the amount of specialized knowledge you need to develop a flight simulator as complex as MSFS, that MSFS is as cheap as it is.  We got almost 2 years of free satellite & photogrammetry without needing to pay a monthly fee for it, and now they are giving us the iniBuilds A310 for free. For the knowledge and specialization you need to join the MSFS development team, those developers probably command high salaries, and MSFS should be charging us an arm and a leg because their developer salaries are not cheap!

Over and over the mantra is repeated, like it's not obvious different teams exist.

Begs the question, what are the bug-fixing and other core sim teams actually doing then? Obvious and top-voted issues persist for months or years. What exactly are Asobo's priorities at this time?

Freebies are not going to stop us from asking these questions while the foundation is shaking.

Thats at least a good few years of several sections of complete code 're-writes there, from specialist teams.

Much of the work on world updates comes from external teams and paid developers, Bing, Gaya etc

Hmmm, should we leave the consistant flow of newly prepared content until you think the sim is ready ...

First my answer like many others: NO

Since this yet another thread on the same topic of "Why is MS/Asobo doing X when they could be doing Y" :), just gonna link to what I posted on another thread: https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/620499-flight-simulator-40th-anniversary-trailer/?do=findComment&comment=4795383

Live weather is on the top of their prioritized backlog and is being worked on for SU10 and beyond. In terms of aircraft general handling improvements that's been a focus SU8, SU9, and will continue to be >=SU10. And various core sim features/issues *are* being looked at, and like we all asked, they have extended the time period for SU betas so that more feedback can be acted upon. Let's see how SU10 goes.

Note also the planned improvements in the area of ground handling:

This should be standard on all default Asobo aircraft. The functionality needs to match the nice visuals.🍻

No.  I especially frown upon outsider folks who feel they have the expertise to influence dev teams.

It is very clear that MS and Asobo wants to run two parallel tracks for this project. If you like it or not I think that is how it will continue.

And even if we did not have Xcloud, Mavrick and Halo we would not have had a perfect sim. Maybe some extra things would have been solved, but then there is a big part of the community that would have felt left out.

The dev teams seems to be growing and I have a feeling MS/Asobo are happy with the speed of progress.

I would love to see an improvement to the live weather depiction, AI traffic, and ATC. I want more voices and more options. I want a fully working ATC and I wanted this a year ago. While ASOBO is at it, can't they please add an altitude to the FP section? So my answer is an emphatic YES!

I have plenty of sceneries, airports, and amazing airplanes that I paid a nice amount of money. I'm confident that WT will improve the avionics. What not confident about is that ASOBO will fix the core sim without hiring competent third party devs to help them.

I want the complete sim that I was promised and paid for almost 2 years ago. Not complaining, just hoping for updates to these very important areas of the sim. We've waited long enough.

Some would say this is by design and a convenient excuse. Where there is a will there is a way. I mean, what happened with opening communications with RXP? He checked all of these boxes and yet he was suspended from posting on the official forum. Glaringly obvious what is going on here to anyone paying attention over the past two years.

And that is why people get upset when we mainly see new content being pushed. It has nothing to do with people having casual fun.
