JUNE 16, 2022 DEVELOPMENT UPDATE

Posted by: Microsoft Flight Simulator Team

ElfinAardvark40-Forum.jpgScreenshot by ElfinAardvark40 (Forum)

Last weekend, the Microsoft Flight Simulator team was proud to join our colleagues in presenting at the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase. In case you missed it, here are the highlights for MSFS:

  • Microsoft Flight Simulator 40th Anniversary Edition
    • A free upgrade to all current MSFS players launching in November 2022.
    • New additions include the introduction of helicopters and gliders to MSFS and the return of some fan-favorite planes from FS2004 and FSX such as the Douglas DC-3, Airbus A310, de Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver, Wright Flyer, and — in partnership with the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum — the Ryan NYP (“Spirit of St. Louis”).
  • D77-TC Pelican
    • Available now as a free addon from the in-sim Marketplace, MSFS players can fly the iconic dropship from the Halo franchise. We collaborated with 343 Industries, the developers of Halo Infinite, to simulate this famous science fiction aircraft in the most realistic way possible.

You can read more about the 40th Anniversary Edition and Halo Pelican here. Additionally, on June 14th, we released the next entries in our World Update and Local Legends series.

  • World Update X: USA and US Territories
    • Available now as a free addon from the in-sim Marketplace.
    • Includes new photogrammetry cities, four new hand-crafted airports, 87 new Points of Interest (POIs), plus new landing challenges, discovery flights, and bush trips.
    • More information about World Update X can be found here.
  • Local Legend V: Beechcraft Model 18
    • Developed for Microsoft Flight Simulator by Carenado, the “Twin Beech” is a robust and versatile plane designed by American aircraft manufacturer Beechcraft in the 1930s.
    • Available now from the in-sim Marketplace for USD $14.99.
    • More information about the Beechcraft Model 18 can be found here.

We will soon begin public testing of our next major update, Sim Update 10, which is currently slated for release in August. If you would like to help the development team by testing this update and reporting any issues you encounter, please watch this space for information on how to join the public test.

TWITCH UPDATE

FVUpEZBX0BAdJ2h.jpg

We stream weekly on Twitch.tv/MSFSOfficial!

To celebrate the release of World Update 10, this week’s fly-in will see us journey over some of the new USA scenery and POIs as we enjoy a flight to Little Rock and St. Louis. And yes, we will be flying under the Gateway Arch. Click here for more details! All are welcome to participate.

COMMUNITY VIDEO

For one week every July, the busiest airspace in the entire United States isn’t over New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, or Atlanta. Rather, it’s above the airport of a small city of only 66,000 people in Wisconsin. Wittman Regional Airport (KOSH) in Oshkosh, WI is home to the annual EAA AirVenture fly-in and airshow, and thousands of pilots fly their own planes to the event. If you can’t attend in real life, our friends at PilotEdge, some of whom are real Oshkosh controllers are hosting SimVenture 2022 where sim pilots can execute the famous Fisk Approach from the comfort and safety of their homes. You can read more about this event on our forum here and watch PilotEdge’s preview trailer for this event below:

That new Bristell B23 on the marketplace is interesting as it seems to be from Airfoil Labs who've done some extremely impressive stuff for XP such as their KA350 and C172s

AFL had announced they were working on the B23 but I (and I'm guessing everyone else) was presuming that was XP only.
https://www.airfoillabs.com/b23

(Azurepoly Socata TB-30 Eclipse looks fun as well - clearly I'm a sucker for ultralights and trainer aircraft)

I hope the Asobo team has become aware of the catastrophic screw-up they made around the city of Charleston, WV, in WU10. The city was given photogrammetry. And the city itself looks incredibly good. But the entire surrounding area now looks like the surface of the Moon. The mountains have no trees on them, and the tile colors are horribly wrong and shockingly mismatched. We've all had experiences where our scenery was "melted" due to server or internet issues. The area surrounding Charleston, WV, now has this melted look as a permanent feature. It's not a bandwidth or throughput issue here. If you uninstall WU10, the problem entirely goes away. I hope this issue is resolved, because it completely spoils the appearance of the photogrammetry work they did on Charleston, WV, in WU10. Please, Asobo, acknowledge this problem and address it. Thank you!

I wonder if they have fixed the Flightbeam PDX ILS and approach issues?  Been a year.

Piston singles up the wazoo!!  Great to see new devs.  We need some more twins or turboprops etc etc.  Biz jets too!

The Velocity Black Square is close to a Lancair Legacy but still too slow haha!

At this point they should simply change the name to Marketing Update.

I know this sim is supposed to be everything to everyone, but compared to this it's clear which side is being favored more.

What a dumb take. XP-12 is not released yet so they won't have much space for talking about products for sale. The MSFS blog talks about products that are newly released and those that have been updated and rightfully so. There have been plenty of updates that are similar to what you linked from MSFS so I have no idea why you would try to make that silly comparison. You should probably change your name to Moaner Lisa lol

He already changed it from SubtotalGuide - so at least there’s some humour buried somewhere 🙂

Please do share. Would be interesting to read more in-depth about the upcoming changes being worked on.

Well before XP12 their updates were mostly, if not all, still focused on actual development and technology. Stuff flight simmers would actually be interested in knowing. Or is that too dumb?

Have a look at the MSFS videos on their official video channels.   It's part of their mix.   What you see above is just one component of how they keep the community updated.

Development-focused updates for an unreleased sim still in development? Do tell!

You're just trolling for reactions at this point.  Asobo do 60+ minute Dev Q&As about once a month talking about the sim's development, released an entire video series talking about their technology stack, and put dev updates in their weekly communiques if they have something new. But you know all of this already.

Oh god. I don't think I can stand 60+mins of Austin M talking once a month in a dev Q&A. Please don't give him ideas. 😂
