Blurries, schmurries. What's causing THIS?

Recommended Posts

See screenshots attached. I notice blurry textures now and again but this is what drives me crazy, particularly when flying high above ocean. I posted a query about this problem a while ago, and only got one reply suggesting that my graphics card drivers might be out of date. They're definitely not (although you could argue that the graphics card itself is, it's just an nVidia 6800GS, but it does have 512MB RAM).I'm seeing two types of sharp division in reflection intensity on water, which you can see in the screenshots. The nearer one rotates with the point of view and is always parallel to the bottom of the screen. The further one seems to be a square around the plane whose orientation remains fixed relative to the world. I see this only with 2.x water effects -- my guess is that beyond the outer square the 2.x effect stops and I'm seeing plain old water with no light reflection. The nearer one is wierd though; I see reflection on both sides of the line but at different intensity. At lower altitudes it's not quite so bad since the lines are closer to the horizon, but it's still annoying.I can't believe I'm the only one seeing this, but I guess there would be more complaints if it was widespread. Any ideas would be gratefully received...http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/173420.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/173421.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/173422.jpg

I guess I worded my post confusingly. My problem isn't blurries at all, it's the sharp divisions in water reflection brightness that you can see in the screenshots I posted.I do see blurries as well but compared to this they really don't bother me.

Looks like the classic FS9 "iron cross" water texture effect aggravated by replacement water textures.scott s..

Most likely this was a compromise for SP1 to improve frame rates.

do you have ASX/G installed? i noticed this problem after using replacement textures from the ASG package. ==Marten:Weber==P-D920 oc3.64MHz 2GB RAM WinXP ATI X1900+1024MB 2xSATA250 2xVIEWSONIC 19"Best AI available today: www.world-of-ai.com

ccaughie, it looks to me like your system isn't getting enough time to process the textures.

I don't have ASX/G (yet). I do have Xclass World though. As an experiment I tried disabling it in the scenery library, but the problem remained. Maybe the next step is a clean reinstall.I'm not sure if this was an issue pre-SP1. My round-the-world flight was taking me mostly over land back then, but now that I'm flying around the Phillippines there's an awful lot of water to be seen from FL350. :)McCrash, the idea about the system not getting enough time to process the textures is a good one, but doesn't quite tally with what I see. You can't see this from the screenshots, but when the sim is running the lines move perfectly smoothly, keeping what looks like a constant distance from the plane. It's not at all like what you see with texture resolution where the divisions are on tile boundaries that are fixed relative to the ground. Moreover, pausing the simulator, which reportedly helps the texture loading to catch up when you have blurries, has no effect on this one.
