DX12?

Recommended Posts

Just curious, as someone that is not technical at all, is there any benefit right now to using DX12 over DX11?  I am not sure what the difference is but wanted to see what the general consensus is.

there is no benefit to using dx12 at the moment, only negatives. supposedly it is on the docket to be improved by Asobo at some point (along with DLSS support and possibly ray tracing.)

Some addons aren't compatible with DX12 and can crash.  It is no better on graphics or performance anyway, so not worth it yet.  It will have to go that way in the end, as Asobo say they want to add extra graphical features / effects eventually using DX12.

Call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind, but I prefer Rob.

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

It seems to cause more problems  than it is worth.

Wait until the next update in August, then try it. Should be good then, fingers crossed.

Kodiak will not run in DX12, thats the only reason I didn't keep using it. Other than that I had no problems with it.

I'm hoping they can exploit DX12 for cloud depiction it really needs all the help it can get.

What is the theoretical benefit that Asobo will work further with it?  I think P3D went there w/ version 5 and I read of better performance but more VRAM in use.  Have not followed that further.

When P3D 1st went to DX12, I had just got a 1060 with 6 gigs, light planes would run at about 3.6 gigs, the heavy "study level Planes would suck up 5.2 (both scenarios were locked at 30 FPS). I could run more higher settings in DX11. DX12 will suck up more of a cards ram than DX11, Of course when I got my 12gig card, I could pump my graphic settings back up. Those users with less than 6 gigs were having a bit of trouble.

Hopefully those w/ more VRAM will be able to do higher resolution clouds.  SInce they can offer both DX11 and DX12 this might be a pathway to improve cloud depiction for those systems than can do it.
