Making backup copies of the original FSX discs...

Featured Replies

The subject of the factory-original FSX discs becoming lost or damaged comes up from time to time. So, I thought I'd repost some information about making backup copies of the discs. And yes, it is legal to copy them as your own private backups*. And, no, they are not copy protected (the "protection" comes from the activation process). I recommend making ISO files from the originals and then simply burning the ISO files to blank  DVDs  (you can also leave the ISO files on your HDD and use a virtual disc drive to install them) .Once that's done if you have to install FSX again you can simply mount the ISO file to a physical or virtual disc drive. Freeware to do this can be found here:

To create the ISO files look here: https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-crea...-or-cd-2625180

To mount a virtual DVD look here: http://download.cnet.com/Virtual-Clo..._4-173879.html

Once you do this you'll never need to worry again about the condition of the original discs.

I made backup disks years and years ago, but it seems a moot point now, with FSX available on steam, and often on sale for just a few dollars...

I thought this to be a better "Tips and Tricks" Topic rather than a general discussion.  Good info, Doug!
