Not All Callsigns Recognized By FO

Recommended Posts

Hi, every once in a while I have the problem that the FO won't recognize ATC is calling us. I can then ask him to “acknowledge ATC“, and he then does so, but he reads back an old message, mostly “contact departure“. I believe most of the time it has to do with the callsign itself having letters in it, or maybe it happens if MCE doesn't know or can't read the airline, or both...? My callsign today was “Vueling 7JF“ (from a real-world flight), but when asked what our callsign was, the FO only answered “7JF“. I've seen this before, with the callsigns “Turkish 6QV“, “Eurowings 1WP“ and “ "New Zealand 99P", and more...

Best regards, Dimitrios

Very likely related to "human recorded audio" which doesn't cover all possible call-signs. Eventually, try using a TTS voice to see if it makes a difference.

"EuroWings" should be doable with "Euro Wings" though.

Thanks, but the missing airline name isn't the real problem. The problem is that the FO doesn't react to ATC messages. I have to pay extra attention to ATC, tell him to acknowledge, dial in frequencies for him, ask him to contact the next facility, etc. It's as much work as handling ATC myself at that point (so often I do).

Could it be the letters in the flight number? Or the different ways the company name can show up in PF3's ATC message log file, as you already pointed out?

Try Pilot2ATC?
