July 14, 20223 yr Author After trying several long distant flights with FPS starting from 80 to 110 depending on scenery and sliders set to full, mid and min settings. X-plane gradually slows down to a 11FPS or locks up. The CPU is only working at 10%, the GPU at 39% ram at 20%. To me it seems like the hardware is not being pushed hard at all. I sometimes get a message that the Vulkan device not detected so not sure what that is all about. Yes the Vulkan box is checked to be on. Maybe that suggestion to turn it off and see if it runs in open GL might help narrow down the root problem. All it takes is to close X-plane if it is not fully locked up and restart it and it works good again so think that eliminates a Window 11 or hardware problem. Terry

Terry If you can upload your log txt to somewhere , and post a link after you had that slow down issue would be good. Its a problem on this site that you cant post these files, as people dont like clicking on links. But we need that file. Maybe the admins can provide a solution to posting your log.
July 14, 20223 yr If you have a OOM situation, it doesn’t matter how much you push the CPU. Can you check your memory usage, including your swap space? How much physical memory do you have? Are you using orthos? Any other addon in the region you are approaching? Sometimes a bad tile can cause this. The Log.txt can tell you what is being loaded when you hit your problem.

Hello, If one or two kernels work with about 90 to 100% and the other eight to twelf Kernels are at 0% you get this 10%. X-plane uses during a flight two to three kernels (like man other games too). If thees are ging to 90 to 100% the this is the end of Performance. So in this case, ist importent to have a CPU with good Single Core Performance. But your problem is the increase of fps during a flight. Look AT the Temperature of the CPU and GPU, because of termal throttling. RAM clocking and stepping and sie. July 14, 20223 yr Author I turned off Vulkan (unchecked the box) and just completed a two plus hour flight with zero loss of FPS throughout the flight. No Vulkan warning messages. Also sliders all set to one notch from full Right and even with lots of real world clouds saw rates of 80 to 110FPS which is NORMAL for my computer over the past several years. My guess is something in the program/Vulkan files is not working as designed. Also ran a X-Plane file check to see if I needed any updates to the program or scenery files. Only a small file at a German airport needed a over-write. Thanks to all who provided insights to a possible fix. Terry

You are not going to get a Vulcan error if you are not using Vulcan. Just because it runs in OGL doesnt mean there is a problem with Vulcan. XP12 will be Vulcan only, for very good reasons , OGL is old, is limited and not updated any more. If you are having Vulcan issues, its very like you are running plugins or scenery that are doing things they shouldnt. Once upon a timer developers could get away with stuff that was illegal, that is no longer the case. Bad textures, Plugins doing illegal calls. Its up to you to find which ones are causing the issue
July 15, 20223 yr Author Sorry to say I am NOT running any add-on or illegal programs in X=Plane. Everything is downloaded from the official X=Plane site. Everything is 100% stock X-Plane. CPU temp while running 64C with a idle temp of 33C, The GPU runs at 75C max and idles in the low 50s. Ever sense Vulkan came out in X=P, I have used it with zero problems and the same equipment and settings. I update the NVIDEA drivers when ever a new one comes out. Also all Window 11 updates when they come out too. I run as little of the Window bloatware programs as possible. No browser or music programs running while flying. When I ran the check to see if all the X-plane files were there, only a small file for a German airport was missing in the scenery check. Could there be a BAD file (Extra) that would not be detected in these checks. My only solution would be to completely remove and replace the entire X-Plane program. While my FIOS is not real slow (500Mb down) the X-Plane sever takes a LONG time to download the entire program and scenery files. If this were the new X-P 12, I would not think too much about this problem but this is a well tested and proven Z-P 11.55 that should be bug free by now. Terry
July 15, 20223 yr @Cat_Dad I see, yes you do know little. You cannot afford to be word not allowed with PCs. 1. I did not say you where using illegal software I said, " Once upon a time developers could get away with stuff that was illegal," Thats software calls, texture configs etc etc. Programing stuff. The reason why Laminar wont allow texture mods by default. 2. Running xplane installer will not tell you whether an addon is borked or not, thats what crashes and other things do. Laminar have tried to stop things but they cant fix everyone mess. 3.MS$ patches have being known to break things, you should read about it, happens all teh time. 4. Having the latest video driver again, isnt always the best thing, im usually one version behind, They also get bugs in new releases. Thats why they have forums. You very likely do have addons that are causing the issue, but to find out which one you will have to remove them and add them back one at a time. Just because it may have being downloaded from the ORG doesnt always mean its compatible. XP9 planes will like crash in 11 where ver 10 ones usually work, but not all. That goes for scenery as well. You have some learning to do. Edited July 15, 20223 yr by mjrhealth
July 15, 20223 yr Actually, it looks you have a NVIDIA driver issue. I am not running Windows, but from time to time I read of users that have to downgrade the driver to a previous stable release to solve those problems. PS: such problems are not limited to X-Plane, also other games suffer from compatibility problems due to video drivers from time to time. What NVIDIA driver are you on currently? Maybe someone else running Windows can advise you which version is the best for X-Plane at the moment.

What works on one may not work on another.
July 15, 20223 yr Author The current video driver is 516.59 Same problem with the driver prior to this and I went all the way back to a driver from January of this year and still had the same problem. As for the supposed add-ons to X-Plane, , I only download the X-plane from what I think is the official Laminar site. No forum, no third party, no pay-ware etc. If the Laminar site is infected with some un-authorized software, then it is a problem they need to be addressing. If they are doing some pre-testing of X-P 12 in the X-P 11, then I would think they should notify us that we might see performance problems. If Window 11 software is the problem, why does this not show up when running Open GL Vs Vulkan? I would imagine there are a lot of new and old games out there written in Vulkan that would be having problems too. I wonder if X-Plane 12 has been developed using Window 11 or 10? If this same problem shows up in X-P 12, then we might be able to figure out if Win 11 is causing the problem, yes? Terry

From the log.txt you posted: Windows 10.0 (build 22000/2) When did you update to the latest driver? You stated, also with the rolled back drivers you had the problem. Before updating to the latest driver (i.e. with the older drivers) you haven't posted the problem, although it must have been present, but you didn't ask for help. Could you roll back again to an older driver and send the log? Once with OpenGL, the other time with Vulkan. And please tell us the graphics settings you used in each case. July 15, 20223 yr Also no one here is saying illegal software is used. Software making illegal calls to a driver or hardware is something completely different, it is a complicated way to say there is a bug.

July 16, 20223 yr Probably he is referring to the org. As most of us know, that site is not owned or maintained by Laminar.
