Embraer 190

Recommended Posts

Hi,

after years of staying grounded, I made a flight with E190. My seat was a center seat in 3rd line and I managed to see quite a lot to cockpit before the start. So, I have no knowledge of this plane and I became curious: How automatic is this plane? How does it compare to B737 or A320? If sombody would enlighten me, I'll be grateful.

The EMB 190/195 uses the Honeywell Primus Epic flight deck, which is a much newer design than the avionics found on either the A320 or B737. Business jets such as the Gulfstream 550/650 and Dassault 7X and 900/2000 EASy use the same system. It is highly automated and has very in-depth systems displays.

Thanks, so E190 is even more "easy to fly" than A320?

Probably only a pilot with experience on both types could answer that, but I would have to say that the avionics on the EMB are more advanced.

I've never been in a real E190, but I flew it quite a lot in P3D (Feelthere's version). It's not easier to fly than an Airbus, and it's not as much automated (though close). I'd say it's in between an Airbus and a 737 in regards to automation. For a regional jet it's quite advanced, much more modern than the CRJ (it has VNAV and A/T e.g., cockpit layout, touchscreens etc.). Anyway it takes some time to get used to, the FMC is really different from any other airliner. I struggled quite a lot with the takeoff->aftertakeoff->climb procedures.
It does have an ultra-cool yoke, though 😄

Actually the Citation XLS (NOT XLS+) uses this avionics as well.

I will tell ya, I love the planeview system. I have always felt that if you got lost in the G550, you have no business flying. That system gives so much information, that initially its overloading. Early on, I remember constantly having to search for ground speed because there was so much information lol. I know someone mentioned whether the E190 was easier to fly than an Airbus. Well, aircraft procedures can be complex from aircraft to aircraft, but avionics wise, I feel that honeywell systems are easier. But then again, you are used to what you are used to once you learn it. I hated the universal system and felt it hard to find pages as to me they didn't flow logically. But the planeview system is awesome. I lose my ATC freq, well just click with my ccd on the map and select ATC freqs from the menu. Not only will it give you freqs, it will tell you the sectors name. That way you don't have to say, "center" alone, which indicates you may not know who you are talking to. You will get a list of freqs and one of them will be right. After landing, the airport chart pops up and you can see your position as you slow to taxi speed. It's also cool watching your position on the charts as you shoot an approach or fly a departure. Ok, enough bragging about that system. It has some quirks as well, but has a logical layout and FMC page flow.

In terms of setting up the cockpit for power up? This system is also a "No Lights On" the overhead panel. Similar to The A320 cockpit, setting it up for an engine start is simplistic and does not require many moves on the overhead/pedestal to turn on the aircraft compared to the 737 line. Controls, the 737 is more closely in line with what you would expect in maneuvering from an E-jet, and this is for a good reason. Remember that the segment Embraer wanted to capture was in between the ERJ and 737/A320. So, they made the cockpit nearly identical to the ERJ as this would reduce training time for those regional pilots that would be transitioning into an E-JET. I sincerely think the E-Jets is a great airplane. They were made cheap and simple but effective in their mission, where they have seen a drop off I think is that Airlines want airplanes that can go further and carry less, where the A220 came in and said "right here sir!". The E2 series I don't think has been able to capture that market segment as well, as the E-Series frame was designed back in the late 90's early 2000's, a completely different world back then.

Probably the most informative topic I've read in a while. I appreciate everyone's input on the E190/175. It's a plane I've been on a lot as a passenger however never purchased the feelthere series back in P3D to experience the flight deck in the sim
