v1.27.13.0 New beta build today!

must be tricky for them to fix or finetune as I just did 1 flight in the Fenix from KBOS to KLGA with latest beta and saw neither stutters nor fps reductions (being limited anyway to 35fps) with DX12 and TAA.

Same here after a couple of 2-3 hours flights with the DA62 and the King Air (yeah, I am still trying to get the achievements... :P)

One thing I noticed is that the stuttering was much more pronounced as soon as I loaded FS after the update (and I don't use the rolling cache). Then I reset the settings to Ultra and restarted, and the last two above mentioned flights were almost free from stutters.

Of course I'd like to see again more than 8 GB of VRAM used, considering that I paid for them and before yesterday's update the sim was smoother anyway.

I hope in the future the sim will have full scalability, to make everybody happy. I'd like to understand which constraints prevent it to detect the resources and decide case by case whether to apply the "memory optimizations" or not.

I think an answer to that would be complex, variable, and above most of our heads 😉

As an anecdotal case, on the user side, I know some people stick with outdated Nvidia drivers because they are stable, which is a sound idea in principle, but ultimately a mistake. Those users might start asking, Why do you and I have the same hardware but the sim is running better on your machine? Well, do you have the latest driver? No? Ah, well, Nvidia driver XXXX dated the 5th of Whatever Month contains programming commands that assist with VRAM optimisation, so your GPU is unable to run the new code that should improve performance so is still being called by the older memory access code.

Just some food for thought to anyone sticking with old drivers.

So they botched up DX12? That was actually what made me enjoying flying more lately, shame. Hopefully another update soon.

Well in a way they didn't have much of a choice. If they launched the sim without "botching" DX12 i.e. disable the memory manager, thousands of users would have experienced severe graphical glitches when their GPUs VRAMs couldn't keep up with the sims demands.

I'm positive this is only a temporary setback and that DX12 will return in all of it's glory when SU10 goes live.

This sounds a bit concerning regarding the VRAM issue in DX12. For those of you participating in the beta are you providing feedback somehow?

I think they just need to do more internal testing until they get the memory management nailed. DX12 holds a lot of promise. Lot of good feedback over at the MSFS forums 🙂 For others who wants to participate, I recommend voting on topics that are relevant for you. When topics gets enough votes they are more likely to get "bug-logged". In the HDR case this has led to Asobo working on solving the issue.

Another good way of providing feedback is to participate in the beta surveys, found here Latest Sim Update 10 BETA/Sim Update 10 Surveys topics - Microsoft Flight Simulator Forums

It's interesting to see that opinions have shifted in terms of performance, going from overwhelmingly positive in the first update, to the majority in the latest beta update disagreeing that performance is better than SU9.

“They” (meaning Asobo) did not “botch up” DX12. It is evidently a problem that affects only NVidia cards, and is probably going to require a driver update by NVidia before the memory optimizations can be restored in MSFS. Hopefully Asobo has been providing feedback to NVidia so that they know what the problem is.

This happens all the time in the gaming world - if you read the release notes when a new NVidia driver comes out, you will note that  the driver often contains fixes for bugs that affect specific game titles.

AFAIK, the DX12 memory optimizations are still active if the MSFS computer has an AMD GPU.

A fairly typical comment over at the official forums is something like this: "That's it, I'm going back to SU9". Which makes sense if the latest beta update has rendered the sim unusable because of e.g. low fps and stutters. But if the sim is usable, e.g. by switching from DX12 to DX11, it would perhaps make sense to stay in the beta and continue testing. The more users that participate in the beta in the coming weeks before release, the more likely that Asobo become aware of issues and can fix them in time.

Yes, crazy isn't it?  They shouldn't download the beta if they aren't prepared for things to be a bit out of shape.

Edit:  Corrected should to shouldn't

Call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind, but I prefer Rob.

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

I think a lot of people are using it as early access to new features.

Yes, and then complain about issues as if they should have a fully functioning update.

Indeed. These type of complaints do take up a lot of forum real estate.

Many people just don't understand, or have unrealistic expectations. It's a BETA... it should be tested with default aircraft and no mods in the community folder. Mod developers shall update their products once SU10 FINAL is out. It's pointless to complain now about FBW stuttering, Fenix broken, Bijan Seasons eating fps, etc.

I am testing the beta as it is, it's rock stable and still performing very good, certainly better than SU9. People who complain about constant crashes and sub 20 fps performance have problems with their hardware / software configs.

I agree 100%. But its a fact that 1st beta was the best in performance so far with or with out addons, and this is something that Asobo need to know.

This update is running wonderfully for me. The previous build was causing me stutters.

I wish we weren't forced to update the software and can at least play the game (but unsupported) on a previous version that runs well. It's a major drawback of this platform - absolutely zero control of an update being pushed and your entire simulator being turned upside down.
