X-Plane 12 on 'Short Final'

It's fine with me. It's an Apple and Linux only sim unless you are prepared to accept a slide show and no support moving into the future.

That isnt what I said

XP11 desktop is roughly 50/50 NT v POSIX atm, compatible with nearly all NT machines (although they dropped win 7 support around XP11.50)

XP12 is only going to be compatible with some 20% of NT machines sold and being used - making it very likely that windows becomes the minority OS even on desktop for XP12.

No idea what you are talking about. I run Win11 and according to you LR have put no significant development time into making sure XP12 runs well on my system and are prioritising Apple. (Ditto the millions of others like me who don't have a Mac) Oh well. I hope they will warn everyone with a Windows system.

No "additional" effort.

Unlike, say, MS pouring millions of $s into DX11 and DX12 support for MSFS.

LR havent wasted their time on that.

Means, XP12 will be a smash hit on say the Steam deck - but wont even run on most windows machines - save the few that have spent more on a graphics card from AMD or NVidia than most people spend on their entire computer.

Yes, yes. I hear you!! If you are running Windows don't bother with XP12.

(LR are going to love you.)😀

Didnt say that either.

There will still be a minority of people running XP12 on windows desktops, its just going to turn into a minority in every category of device people run xplane on.

Its not Laminars fault windows failed to keep up with techological innovation. Nor are nor should LR invest like microsoft in supporting windows machines, even MS has pretty much proved there is no profit in doing so over the last few years.

What is the specific incompatibility? Or more to the point, what GPU would be needed for XP12 to run on Windows?

needs a high version vulkan or metal driver.

So no machines on windows with Intel cards (mac is fine)

You mean an Intel video card?

Who on earth would try to run a flight sim on one of those anyway?

What makes you think they bother with windows?

I completely reject your assertion that they put any significantly meaningful developer time into "making XP12 compatible with Windows".

I pointed out they arent in the slightest doing any such thing.

"That isn't what I said, I just meant ADDITIONAL effort"

Lol.

More than you would think, particularly when it comes to flight sim rather than "AAA gaming".

These arent people spending a fortune on 3rd party planes or scenery. But they do make up a significant portion of the XP11 NT users - more than 10% according to

http://dashboard.x-plane.com/

which will make POSIX users the majority of users in every category of xplane users.

Lol.

If you have another meaning for "they bother with windows" than putting in additional effort to support windows would be glad to hear it.

*Shrug*

Perhaps. I'm pretty new to XP. But my system exceeds the requirements for XP12 so for me this is a non-story. It would have made more sense if you'd been clear about this from the outset.

I'm just happy that our perceptions of what "they arent in the slightest doing any such thing" means can be so very different! What a wonderful and diverse world this is.

I think you just have a lower bar for what you consider "effort".

I'm just pointing out that I expect microsoft NTs marginal lead of 59% of desktops to vanish in XP12 when 10% of XP11 windows users - 80% of windows NT machines - cant even get passed the loading screen.

MS poured millions into supporting them for MSFS, but I dont see a single sign that LR "bothered" in any way at all.
