Those with a Nvidia 3070

What CPU do you have Bill?  My 3070 and 5600X were quite well balanced, but I'm quite CPU bound now so that will have to be my next upgrade.  I was thinking of upgrading the CPU first, but for £600, I could not let the opportunity to get the 3080 pass.

I have a AMD Ryzen 5900X

Ah, that should be pretty well balanced with the 3080 then.

@sonny147

Same here.  From a trusty 1080Ti, to a 3080Ti.  Can do 4k all ultra at 60FPS just about (with the new DLSS - not quite possible with TAA).

I am running it a 30 FPS during the summer though.  It's cool and quiet, and the 30 FPS is surprisingly smooth.  GPU is at 40-45% utilisation at 30 FPS, 65C, fans barely audible.

Never really looked at VRAM usage, but never had any stutters except for a brief skip when looking around at a large airport occasionally - no major drama.

I think VRAM is another thing you can spend too much time looking at and worrying about.  There is not much you can do about it.

Hopefully they will get the memory management fixed with DX12, but I am super smooth at DX11 at the moment, so I can't currently see any benefit until they optimise and add new features.

Not sure if they will be looking at ray-tracing eventually, but I am not interested at the moment.  The sim looks good, and I would prefer the smoothness / performance before any more graphical enhancements.  The issues that are there don't really bug me.  (horizontal line and screen space reflections etc.)

Call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind, but I prefer Rob.

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Try it with Sebs Manchester or Glasgow photo sceneries.  John Lovell's Plymouth also maxed out my 3070.  I had to use LOD 1.5 and render scale of 80/90 per cent.

Depends on your rez of course.  The 3070 was fine at 1080 but not so good at 1440.  How people run at 4k is beyond me unless a lot of settings are turned down.

I'll keep an eye on it over busy areas, in VR like I said so I don't monitor it constantly.

Fairly normal.  DX12 will use it a lot more when they get it right.

As my 3090 regularly uses around 13-15 gb I believe with everything set to ultra, I would suspect a 3070 is going to max at its limit.

That's something that I'm looking into, selling my 3070 and getting an 80

I would highly recommend waiting for the 4080 etc.

I have a 1080 Ti and it's typical that my vram is close to saturation (usually 9 or 10gb / 11).  1440P with ultra settings here.

The 3060ti is all you need currently.

But recognize that today is just today, and the sun rises again tomorrow...  Always has in this flight sim activity.  Right now I would wait for three things.  4xxx series pricing, physical size (space requirements),and PSU wattage requirements.  Not to mention case-related airflow capacity.  Each of those could be deciding factors.  Considered together they as a group those factors become crucial.  Many of us rode 1xxx series cards for five years. In my case an 8GB 1070TI.  Go for a solution that has staying power.

I find far less gpu use with the beta patch, in case anyone hasn't dared to use that too. It's fast and painless to try was my experience with all the beta patches. Or you can wait for late this month for official SU10.

Don't forget upgraded gpu cards might need a bigger power supply.

I'm using a MSI Katana Gaming Laptop, and using a GTX3070. And Everything on Ultra settings using a 1920 * 1080 resolution, and i'm getting between 25-40fps on ground around main airports (Heathrow, JFK, LAX) etc, then getting between 40-85fps while in the air.

I'm more than happy with those results.

Same here, only I am using 1440p (about  3 weeks ago I upgraded from 1080p). It cost me very little in fps, maybe 10 % . On the other hand the upgrade in picture quality is nothing tremendous either (I have 2 32" side by side 1440p and 1080p and there is little difference in picture quality. It is indeed noticeable. But nothing tremendous.

So now I just rotate the old 1080p 32" for use in Chartfox and Lil Nav Map, or any text files while flying on the 1440p 32" directly in front of my eyes. The other lesser resolution 32" monitor if off to one side and rotated to point directly at me too.
