The v3 update of my freeware L08 Borrego Valley Airport scenery, now optimized for both Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and MSFS2020 is available for free! This update brings a host of improvements and fixes, ensuring the most accurate and immersive experience possible.

What’s New in v3?

  • Dual Compatibility: The ZIP now includes two folders:
    • `vbcorp-airport-L08-Borrego` (required for both versions)
    • `zzz-vbcorp-airport-L08-Borrego` (MSFS2024 only - keep the name as-is for proper loading)
    • MSFS2020 users: Simply ignore the "zzz-" folder.
  • Precision Alignment: Fully aligned with SU16 and MSFS2024 Bing Maps data - repositioned objects, ground textures, taxiway lines, and more for pinpoint accuracy.
  • Enhanced Runway Texture: Exclusively for MSFS2024, enjoy a more realistic runway surface.
  • Realistic Parking Spots: Improved markings for added authenticity.
  • Weathered Asphalt: Added subtle patches for a lived-in, realistic look.
  • Taxiway Signs: Filled in missing signs (this airport has a lot of them!)
  • Solar Farm Update: Adjusted solar panel positions up north, plus a few tiny tweaks only true Borrego enthusiasts might spot.

Why This Update?

Borrego Valley is a hidden gem in Southern California’s desert, and this update ensures it shines in both MSFS2024 and MSFS2020. Whether you’re flying a Cessna for a quick touch-and-go or exploring the backcountry, every detail matters. Borrego is also well-known for aerobatics primarily because it hosts **two annual aerobatic competitions** held in April and October. Additionally, the airport features a **dedicated aerobatic box** located north of the field, specifically designated for aerobatic practice and competitions. This infrastructure, combined with the airport’s open airspace, clear weather, and scenic desert backdrop, makes it a popular and practical location for aerobatic flying in Southern California

Installation Notes

  • MSFS2024: Activate both folders in your Community folder.
  • MSFS2020: Only the `vbcorp-airport-L08-Borrego` folder is needed.

I finally purchased MSFS 2024 and I see you just answered my question about compatibility of your wonderful San Diego airports.

Intel i9-12900KF, Asus Prime Z690-A MB, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, (3) SK hynix M.2 SSD (2TB ea.), 16TB Seagate HDD, Gigabyte GeForce 5080 RTX, Corsair iCUE H70i AIO Liquid Cooler, UHD/Blu-ray Player/Burner (still have lots of CDs, DVDs!)  Windows 10, (hold off for now on Win11),  EVGA 1300W PSU
Netgear 1Gbps modem & router, (3) 27" 1440 wrap-around displays
Full array of Bravo, Saitek and GoFlight hardware for the cockpit. Varjo and HP VR headsets for mixed reality.

Not all are yet compatible. For example, UT25 Monument Valley needs attention after the SU4 and the Red Bull Air Race addon. It's a long process and I'm doing this on my spare time.

Author’s note
As for all of my MSFS mod, this small scenery is made from a pilot-eyes perspective. In real, I’m a Plus One Flyers member and mostly fly from Montgomery Field (KMYF). I’m real PPL, but a rookie amateur scenery developer: this mod is made with 99% of MSFS default objects library and feature massive number of details. The scenery is inspired by aerial views from Bing and Google maps. It’s a mix between the satellite imagery displayed from MSFS and more accurate data found on Internet. Unfortunately, there’s no taxiway information nor in Jeppesen, FAA or Foreflight data. I did my best based on online video and online pictures. Hundreds of objects have been added to the default scenery to make in more live and bring a touch of an active area.

Borrego? The place-to-be for aerobatics
The International Aerobatic Club (IAC) has a practice and competition area just north of the airport (see white ground markings). Aerobatic pilots from California and the southwest US regularly use it for practice and major competitive events; Two annual competitions are sponsored by the San Diego Aerobatic Club, in April and October. Jump into your CAP 10 or Pitts!
